If the BOV is venting to atmosphere, it doesn't matter if its Gen 1 or 2. Is your BOV venting to atmosphere? If it is, the problem is that the MAF is metering air at the turbo inlet: At blowoff, even tho the throttle is closed, the MAF is seeing the blowoff flow, which can be substantial. EEC sees the blowoff flow, and throws fuel at the engine, but the throttle is closed, and the engine stalls because it goes pig rich.
Either move the MAF downstream of the turbo, and after the BOV, or leave the MAF where it is and recirculate the blowoff flow back to the inlet side of the turbo, so it isn't "lost".
Pretty much any blown engine will do this if air metering is prior to the compressor. The SC'd SHO's blowoff between the compressor outlet and the MAF, so its not a problem. My turbocharged SVO Mustang blowoff has to be recirculated to the turbo inlet because the air metering (MAF conversion) is on the turbo inlet.
