I get tired of these POS TCs. This one finally went. I've had issues with it from the beginning. This one is a GEN2 style one and we went round and round about it when I got it. :argue:

Best one I've ever had ironically is one of the DACCO rebuilds.

I honestly wanna know how aggressive some of you ATX drivers are... I know a guy with a gen 3 that has a 100 shot of nitrous, full custom exhaust, and an sct tune. The car has seen probably a dozen bottles of giggity gas and its is still on the stock transmission. The car currently has just under 160k on the clock. When not at the track, the car NEVER sees 3,000 rpms unless hes cruising on the highway. The tranny shifts like a knife through buttah. He also flushes the tranny fluid and changed the filter every 10,000 miles. Maybe his frequent fluid changes are what keeps it alive?

Me aggressive??

I use my car as a test bed for my tuning. Usually go out and datalog 2-3, 0-120 mph runs on a weekly basis. BUT as I said I had doubts about this TC from the beginning.

Hah well that explains it. I can honestly say that in the 4 years my friend has had his SHO, I have ridden in it for a good 30,000 miles (road trips). In that 30k I have sat in the passenger seat, I have personally seen the tach hit 4 grand once... Yea 1 time. Thats how careful he is with it while its being daily driven. Now, on the race track, its a whole other story.

Are the TC's your using all single disc mod clutches or 2 or 3 disc mod clutches?

If you have been using single disc TC's you should try a dual or triple disc TC.

My stock tranny/Torque converter didn't last 200 miles after I put the M90 on my green 96. Didn't help letting Larry drive it, either, but it was immediately obvious that the drivetrain couldn't take the low end torque increase.

I've got ~4000 miles on this tranny and Tq conv. but I'm not declaring victory yet by any means.

FWIW - I spent ~$500.00 on the same Gen 3 SHO converter that was cooked. Guy who did it swore it would live up to 600 hp. We shall see, still in testing.

While I'm not overly aggressive, I do like to have fun with my car. Well, after 20k miles, it's exactly the same as it was when I drove it from Art Carr's shop to my house. The tranny is awesome. I recently did a pan seal replacement, and the fluid was still perfect with no shavings in the pan. My TC is a custom rebuild from Art's. No I'm not talking about the Art Carr you see on the web, I'm talking about the real deal in Huntington Beach, California. He now owns California Performance Transmission. What's the point of driving it if you have to baby it all the time?

I believe the V8 TC is dual clutch stock.

I beleive the V8 TC is dual clutch stock.

Very well could be. From what I have been able to find out here at work all arrows seem to be pointing to a single disc. That's why I asked, I have never pulled one apart myself.

It's a twin disc clutch as are all the SHO TCs other than the original one in '93. What I never liked about this one is that the place that built it makes just one for both the V6 and the V8 SHOs. It came with the tranny is all I can say.

I am at over 177k and still have had zero problems with the transmission of any sort (knock on wood), while certainly driving it fairly aggressively, however it has only been to the track one time just to see what numbers it could do, and is not likely to ever be there again.

On much repeated reputation, there does seem to be one really good transmission guy here in the mid Island area for doing 'sports' automatics, so if it finally does start to go, at least I know where to take it.

Mine has never really worked correct, but I bought the car with an unknown amount of miles. It's a former Ministry of Transportaion car from Ontario and had a SLO cluster put in it when passed back to the states.

I flushed the fluid and put Mobil 1 Syn about 20k ago. It's about ready for another one.

I personally think it is one of the reasons my car gets ~11mpg normally. I drive aggressively once in a while, but I do not think that is any excuse for the poor gas mileage.

i blew mine last sat.
i guess it was all different colors too
no more then 11k old too

I've seen them get hot enough to turn all sorts of different colors and paint peels off but that usually only occurs when the TC is being stalled. Like loading it up at the drag strip.
