Today, I was driving my '99 down a major hill between Victorville and San Bernadino (CA) doing about 85 mph and as I braked a few times, the car shuddered very loudly each time. I was very nervous with kids in the backseat. The whole car shuddered louder the further I pressed the brake pedal. With some luck, once I got the car down to 65 mph, the problem did not resurface and the brakes worked perfectly for the rest of the trip. Any insight into this problem and what exactly needs to be repaired/replaced is appreciated. Has anyone had this problem??? Also, any tips on where I should take the car for repair (dealer vs. brake specialists) would be helpful. Thanks for any responses.

It would have to be warped rotors.

Not bad enoough to show up in everyday use, but bad enough to show up at 85 mph.

Check with a good brake specialist, especially one that works with high perfomance cars, for more details.
