I was planning on the rear main and oil pan gasket. Are there any bushings in the clutch assembly that might need replaced?

yeah axle seals are cheap and the same as a regular auto taurus....

rear main seal, rod bearings, oil pan gasket kit, oil filter, oil, drain the tranny while its out, tilt it so the fill plug is at the bottom and it all drains for awhile... then fill it with some regular Dexron/Mercon III fluid

might want to have a spare exhaust donut for the end of the y pipe to the catback... sometimes u can break it if its already bad from the get go....

It's a good time to replace the coolant hoses that are right above the transmission because they are easy to access.

Well,

Since the y-pipe and starter are out...how about replacing the oil cooler to block gasket? You can use the gasket thats on your OLD oil filter...it should be a perfect fit.

I thought the MTX calls for Synthetic Mercon ATX fluid?

See thread in Product Feedback forum. Those of us who have tried conventional Valvoline Dex/Merc ATF from NAPA have seen improved shifting performance. Ford does not specify synthetic, although Mobil 1 ATF was a popular choice until the Valvoline revelation.
