annoying clicking noise when heater/ac is on

Whenever I turn on the air conditioning or heater, a constant, annoying clicking noise starts and doesnt stop until I turn off the ac/heat. What do you think this is and what should I do to fix it? Thank-you for your time

constant clicking noise deep in dash is the blend door actuator. The plastic gear is stripped or the actuator is shot. Not an easy fix! Pull the dash! Sorry Bogdan! Call me.

I have the same problem, but with mine it happens regardless of whether the climate control is on or not. Same problem?

Mine does that too! and then when I try to put the A\C on in between the little clicks there is usually one BIG one and then it blows volcanic lava hot air through the vents like its trying to burn my face off !!
It has to be the actuater......unfortunately

I have a similar problem where you hear a ticking non stop when the heat/ac is on. In my case tho, on top of the ticking, my "High" beam blows low, and my "Low" beam blows high. I just as much consider myself not having heat/ac in my car. I dont even use it because to fix this I'd prolly have to rip out the dash like the guy a few posts back said.

And in fact, the "high" setting on the blower wheel on the heat/ac unit actually just like barely blows engine air into my car. Itll take about 45min-1hr of driving for my car to be an acceptable temperature inside in the winter. The low setting does absolutely squat. Blowers make noise, nothing comes out.

Replacing the blend door actuator really isn't a difficult job, and contrary to popular belief, one does not need to "rip" out the entire dash to get to it. On a scale of 1-10 its about a 5. It requires the center console to be removed, the dash to be unbolted from the firewall, and then pulled away on the passenger side enough to access the actuator. Yeah, a lot of fasteners and parts need to be removed but it can be done in under 4 hours if properly equipped. In order to keep all the nuts, bolts, screws, and other misc. hardware organized I use a bunch of sandwich bags categorizing and labeling them as I go. Remember that you'll be playing with an airbag so you'll want to disconnect the battery before you start the job.

The biggest and best suggestion I can make to anyone doing their own work on their SHO, is to go to their local Ford dealer and order the service manual for their year car. Much like a set of wrenches or sockets, it's an invaluable tool that will more than pay for itself over time.

mine did the same until the other day when the clicking quit and the blower didnt shut off no even with the controls turned off. very annoying. 70 degrees out windows down blower on full blast blowing heat. I found out today that the problem is the blower motor resistor. theres a "snap disc" on it. thats whats making the "clicking sound" Its very expensive to fix. 219 at autozone. Im not happy about it. Im hoping it fixes another problem im having. When ever the heat or a/c is on my car surges. best way to explain it is say im going a steady speed of 30 mph, the car will surge with power. my speed and rpm stays the same but i can feel a little power surge over and over until it turn the heat off. It really ****** me off. lol

it is the blower motor resistor behind the glove box. i had the same problem and i had to replace it and know everything works great. i would go to the junk yard and find it because the resistor is a bout $275.
