OK, so here's what I've got so far...I have the passenger wheel off and I'm spinning the drivers side wheel. I'm using the valve seem as a reference point & the noise only occurs in a certain spot. My guess is that there must be a spot on the rotor? The pads are extremely close the the rotor so maybe that's causing it? Any ideas?

So the new rotors are on &it's still chirping. Going to sand down the pads and see if that helps any.

Did you make sure the splash shield isn't contacting the rotor?

Don't sand down the pads. There's an easy way to see if they are causing your noise; remove them. Take off the caliper and pads, but leave the rotor and tighten it down with a few lug nuts. Then spin the rotor by hand and listen for chirping.

Ha ha, one step ahead of you guys. I did the rotor thing, didn't seem to chirp. Sanded down the pads a little to be on the safe side, put it all back together, and Its still chirping!!!!!!

Bob, I'm Not sure what kind of pads they were. I dropped iyvoffbat Firestone before class to get it checked out. I have work the rest of the weekend and just don't have time for that this weekend. Hopefully they fix it.

Firestone??? Oh ****....you should have just let me look at it at my house Sat. night after dinner. Grinding pads now? Whatever they tell you to replace, don't have them do it. We'll fix it.

I learned awhile back to not let shops (non SHO shops) diagnose problems on these cars.

The car needs to be put on jack stands with the front wheels off, rotors/brake pads on, and put in gear to let the front axle/hubs spin and see where the squeak is coming from. This is dangerous but it's an effective way to diagnose the problem.

His rear brakes were shot to ****, new rear pads and rotors installed. I guess we'd both thought the rear brakes had been previously done, but I guess only the fronts were done. The rear pads were definitely worn out though.

Did you check and/or replace the hoses, too? They like to hold pressure in the caliper when they get old... You've been around here a while so you probably already know about that problem, but I figured I'd mention it anyway.

EDIT: Answered by James. The plot thickens...

This is weird. My brother will probably chime in on this, but from what he told me, one side of the rear pads was worn pretty bad and the other was pretty much shot (uneven wear on the sides). He took it to one place and they said he needed $500 worth of calipers/pads. He said forget it, took it to another place where the guy was real nice. He said the pads were worn and the rotors were grooved. He turned the rotors and put new pads on. I'm sure my brother asked to see everything. He hasn't texted me complaining that it's still making noise.

I told him to bring it over to my house and we'd mess with it this weekend but the car is his DD, he's in college now and works every single weekend. He just paid to have them fixed.

Could maybe the replacement calipers have been faulty and sticking, causing premature brake wear? The rear calipers on these cars suck anyway, and I woudln't put it past faulty rebuilds. The first place said the calipers were bad, the 2nd place said they were fine. This is why I now work on my own shit, but he had time constraints and doesn't have the luxury of owning 4 cars to swap out and drive something else until his is fixed.
