If it is a P0401 replace DPFE sensor, they tend to get moister in them also they don't always give any drivability conditions when they fail,But when they do it usually results in a surge or buck at highway speeds.

1. Go get the codes read. Ignore the stuff the AutoZone guy will say is wrong; just get the number.

2. Go to v8sho.com and search to see what's documented on the number.

3. Come back and tell/ask the pros here what's up.

Hope it's nothing serious. If it's any consolation, I had my SES light on for a while with the code # for IMRC failure. Well, I later got my cams welded at Performance Plus in WI and Doug said it was functioning just fine and that it may have been a false alarm.

That reminds me, weren't you getting the cams welded soon? Ask the person welding what's up. If they're one of the top Gen III guys, they shouldn't have a problem recognizing the problem.

Thanks for your help, Exactly what I wanted to hear.

The cams are getting welded by a Family friend, Who runs a A repair/performance Shop. The whole process has been explained to him, Via Printouts at V8SHO.com, and he is more then compentent to do the job, But he doesent know squat about SHO's (But has plenty of experience with 4 cam V8's ;) ). Thanks for your help :thumb:

No problem. And you might try joining the v8sho mailing list. As of lately, there's been a bunch of controversy, arguments, etc. over off-topic stuff. However, since I have my e-mail program set up to block "OT" "O/T" in the titles, I never have to see those e-mails. ;) I really have no idea what all of the bickering is about, and I'm okay with that. My inbox only gets V8 SHO-specific stuff now.

But at least join temporarily and ask a question. You'd be amazed; that is where it's at in the Gen III world. Within a few minutes, you're likely to have a few responses to your question.

UPDADTE.

My car has been acting kind of srange lately. After the SES Light has gone on, The tempreture has been going up. It goes up towards Hot, (Not all the way up, But its a little To high for comfort), Yet the car runs absolutely perfect. And as soon as the fan kicks in, It drops down reallll quick to where it should be....a Little below The middle of the guage. I have No doubt that this is Tied With the SES Light going on.

Last night I went to Autozone to have the codes ran, and by california State law, They can Not Check your codes for you anymore, But instead you have to either rent, Or buy an OBD-II, So, Today I have to muster up a 184 dollar deposite to rent the damn thing :bonk:

Ill let you guys know what codes I get tonight after I get the OBD II.

Thanks for your help.

I had the same problem a while back and it ended up being my O2 sensors were shot because of the gas quality around here, I hope it is nothing major for you either. Good luck. :thumb:

O2 sensor failure on a V8 SHO is not nearly as prevalent as it is on the V6 cars (it's actually quite rare on the V8), so it's usually not a good shot-in-the-dark guess when the MIL flips. More commonly, it will be an SAI-related code.

How hot does it get? Does it go out of the NORMAL range?
If Temp is running hot,did you ever look to see if the coolant level is low?Sometimes when the coolant level is low the Temp gauge will fluctuate and possibly turn the MIL(Malfunction Indicator Lamp) ON and set a code for a ECT or CHT sensor out of range from it running to hot.If coolant level is ok the thermostat may possibly be sticking.
Also if it helps any,I have seen several 96-01 Explorers with drivability problems like;Idles to high or low, trans shifting errattic, and stalling out when stoping from a stuck thermostat. The thermostat sticking causes the CHT/ECT sensor to be high and the PCM Tries changing running stratigies to try and compensate for the fualt.
Though I haven't seen it on any SHO V8's.
Just a thought,

Both mine are gone as far as the PCM is now concerned. I just haven't bothered to physically remove them yet. I suppose I could also cap off those efficiency monitor bungs since those are no longer used either!
