I just got a Bazooka 500 watt amp.
I am haveing just one problem with it. When I switch sources or change audio settings on my deck I get a hard thump from the speakers.
I have been hunting and hunting and can't find squat about it on the web. If anyone has a cure lemme know.

My headunit is a Pioneer DEH-3500
I think 4 gauge wire maybe smaller size.
Same size ground wire about 2 foot long.
RCA's I don't know the brand but they are purple lmao.......

Also my deck has 2 sets of out puts, front and rear. I should use rear correct?
I don't have any paperwork on my deck........

A high quality head unit will automatically attenuate the volume when switching input sources.

Otherwise a filter on the input to the amp for the specific frequency that is a-thumpin'

yeah what is the gain set at? also, check the bass boost. if thats a little hight turn it down as well.... Low pass shouldnt give you that problem. im not to familiar with those setups though... so i dont know if it has it.....
i would turn all, BB, gain, and (if avalible) low pass down... then crank up you deck to were your loudest is at... then setup the sub for that, then turn the gain up a few....
i have noticed that even though if it sounds distoreted while the trunk is open, once closed, the trunk makes a good encloser.... that taking the distortion away...
thats what i do on mine... just my o2 though.... good luck with it

Ok I'll try the gain first. I have them all wide open. The bass, gain and whatever else is on there 3 of them.

That never helped until I cut it back till 1/4 the way open then I lossed all subs but I did discover a pop in the speakers in the car. I have gottened the pop before when my box was loose and slid into the factory amp. I could wiggle the wires and the pop would go away.
Could anything be broken in the factory amp or would it be comeing from the sterio?

N/m, I yanked it all out and started all over. I bracketed the box in and mounted the amp to the floor behind the box, I have to pull the seat to adjust the amp but the problem is still there. I posted it in the Bazooka forum and got no help yet. here is the post. It also gives detail on my setup.

"I got a ela300.1 hooked to 2 10in subs. They are not matching subs, one is a JBL SVC and the other is an MTX DVC. My deck is a Pioneer DEH-3500. Power wire strait from the battery, ground ran from a bolt in the trunk less than 3 ft. away, and the RCA I think are monster cable. My amp is screwed down to the floor of my trunk.
Whenever I shut the car off or the head unit off or change the radio station or switch to cd it makes the sub thump
what can be causing this??
I doubt the unmatched subs would cause the thump as another guy had the same problem on here. If it could be the subs lemme know but i hope it's something else. Maybe the deck?"

The DVC sub is hooked up parallel? Positive to positive and ground to ground? for a 2 ohm load i think and the other sub is a 4 ohm, I will be replaceing the subs with new matching ones as soon as I eliminate the problem.

From past experience I know that most pops that are experienced with turning the amp on or changing input sources is do the the amp not having a supressor of some type. My kenwood amps all feature something called "quiet turn on" never experienced a pop. I have friends with the sam problems and when I hook up my amp there is no pop. So... It could possibly be the amp.

I used to have one but sold it, I was offered a deal I couldn't refuse. I traded my old one for 2 Kenwood home sterio receivers, 1 kenwood 5 disk changer to go with the receivers, and a 600watt kenwood amp that is now fried..I also sold to the same guy my Alpine deck that i got for a steal for $60, sold it to him for $160.

I wish I had kept both items but i couldn't resist, now i'm back trying to get stuff back.

I melted a brand new 12in american pro sub with the amp.

Make sure that your ground is on bare metal. Also, run a wire from the amps ground to the head units ground. That should help with the thumping

I had a pioneer HU that had the RCAs go south on me and caused a huge thumping in the subs, but it was for as long as the stereo was on, not just switching sources. not saying that it is YOUR problem, but if this just started to happen it could be something similar.

Well it is there without the amp and subs. I Hooked up a kicker amp and still get the thump. I unhooked it and still get a pop through my other speakers. Seems more to the left door speaker but maybe from the deck? or the premium sound amp? anyone have anything like this happen?

Ok I found something new. I had my radio down like on 5 or lower. I do hear a little bit of a buzz that changes at engine speeds. Might still be a ground somewhere needs delt with. It shouldn't be plug wires unless old wore out ones will cause a buzz. I have the factory wires on my car with 121k on them or atleast they are motorcraft.
Also, when I turn the headlights on and off I get the pop or thump. Hmm might be getting close to the problem, if not the deck.
I'm going to re-ground my deck instead of the way it came factory, where ever the harness grounds it, to a bolt or something I can find close to the deck and scrape all the paint and if any rust off.
There is also a 3 step thing on sounddomain I might try before tossing the deck.
http://forum.sounddomain.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=007801

I just don't see the need to run 4 gauge or larger. I think the grounding part would help alot since most cars are poorly grounded. I do however have a massive amount of welding cable, the large wire from the welder to the ground clamp and the positive. Just need some ring terminals.
