I've a strange problem.

I installed my brand new Punch 201S, but it won't power up. The problem seems to be with the RM power wire. I connected it to the amp power out on my head unit, nothing. Antenna wire, nothing. The thing is, both of these wires show 12v until I hook up the amp lead. At that point the voltmeter goes to zero.

Any ideas?

If the power source (antenna wire, remote out) are showing 12V out before attaching your wire leading to the remote turn on to the amp, then 0V when it is hooked up to the power source that indicates that the wire is probably open somewhere.

Try some new wire. Unplug the negative terminal on the battery, jumper the constant +12V on the amp and the remote 12V on the amp temporarily. Hook the negative terminal back up. If the amp is on and functioning properly then the problem is indeed your remote +12V source (you said its good) or the wiring leading up to the amp (my bet)

Hope this helps...

If you have connected the remote wire and your antenna to that same wire, it can cause problems. What happened to me was when I hooked up my amp, antenna, and fan for my amp and turned on the radio, the antenna started going up and down and the amp wouldnt kick on...

I believe that the remote wire out of the back of the head unit only supplies so much power (not a whole lot)...if hooked to too much, it gives no power.

Do what guitar333 said about jumping the +12 volt constant to the remote wire and see if the amp turns on...if so, your trying to draw too much power from the remote wire from the head unit...

I figured it out. I had inadvertently run a screw through the REM wire when I put the trim back on.:bonk:

At least now it works. And thumps. :)
