I was under my sho the other day looking for my power steering leak when I found this.
S7302226

S7302227

The end of the cable shifter. It looks like it needs a bushing or something on it. Where can one find one?

also found a torn cv boot
S7302235

and the rack is soaked every where. I couldn't see where the leak was coming from so I quess its time for a new rack.
S7302234
S7302228
S7302233

Can I use a regular non vaps rack from a regular taurus, or do I have to buy the sho?

Or can I use a vaps rack and seal the extra port?

The rack will leak almost all the fluid just sitting in the garage. It started only when I went over 4k no its all the time.

My return line wasn't on the PS pump all the way and was leaking like that a few days ago. Only in the higher RPM's too.

As for the boot, I used one of the fix-a-boot from Autozone and it's held up very well so far. $20 and 2K miles so far! As long as there isn't too much dirt in the axle yet, it should work for a while.

Don't know about the cable though.

It's red. That's trans fluid which would be in the PS pump. Unless he's got a transmission leak too.

Probably does have an oil leak though.

I only had atf one day in the work van and used it. I just did front 60k. Its all atf, all over. I was only going to replace all the return hose. When I found this. How hard was the return line to get to. I thought It maybe came lose when I moved the reservoir out of the way for the 60k. Isn't it hight pressure from the pump to the rack and low pressure the rest of the way, so the pump shouldn't have a return line on it?

Looks like you're missing some advice to help fix that leak.
What a buncha prudes.
****** up how no one replies after you asked a decent question.
Doesn't anybody care anymore about helping to keep a sho on the road?
Guess not!

you know...it's funny. when i ask a simple question or when i ask to see pictures of white sho's i've got several pages of response. and then when my husband asked about this no one replied...and then this weekend he asked something about his fuse panel and not one reply on the thread...i just don't get it.

but this one he did look up and one person said that you could use the regular taurus rack...but he didn't feel that one person was a good enough thing to go on and wanted some other opinions. i don't see how that was so hard. he always searches....on here and online in general. if you look at his posts you can see he doesn't make many of them all because he doesn't ask unless it's something he can't find. and still....no answers.

Notice that I did not say he could NOT use the regular Taurus rack, only that he was fine to use the SHO racks. No sense using a VAPS rack though. Best bet is to use a NON-VAPS SHO rack. I have a sneaking suspicion that the reg-taurus rack has a different ratio, but probably the same dimensions, so he can use it as well.

thank you. that does make sense that's why we wanted to know before replacing it. we heard from one source saying that it was ok but weren't sure. thanks again for your input!

looks like you just need a new boot over the shifter cable end.

Most of that crud on there is the grease from the CV axle. Some of it is PS fluid.

You can use any SHO rack. I'm willing to bet you can use the taurus rack as well, but I'm not sure I'd recommend it.
