Since there was so much talk about ejecting a dif pin, on this forum, caused by spinning tires. I came across a question.

Is it the "forces" on the dif that cuz the problems or just the "velocity" from the seperate spin speeds.

Basically. Does spinning on the snow (because it dont take much torque) cause just as much potential damage as spinning on dry payment?

That's a good question, also been wondering about it. My SHO's been spinning its tires every winter since it was new, doesn't seem to be any negative effects so far. But the second gear chirps could be another matter...

I've wondered that myself. The MTX IV a.k.a. Mazda garbage had left holes in many a trans case from simply driving around up/down shifting. I have a personal friend that this has happened to.

Its the Velocity of the seperate speed spins. This flings all the lubrication off the internals and causes havoc. Spinning on the snow is the same as spinning on the pavement. If you search there was a good discussion sometime in the last month or so.

EDIT: This thread should answer all your questions:
