My new Alternator from Pep-Boys has crapped out! Now they say that the one I have (which has a lifetime warranty) is no longer available. The one from MasterCraft is about 3 times as expensive.

Where else can I get an alternator for a 1993 3.2?

Advance auto, O'Rielly's, NAPA, Pronto, Do not even list one for the 3.2L. You have really two choices now, either pick one up from a junkyard (which I do not recomend, I did that and the thing kept going out,) or look in the yellow pages for a local place that rebuilds alternators (They are more likely to do a better job, my local place's work was awsome, and will back it up). If it was a 3.0 alternator, you can get them at any auto parts store.

Mine crapped out so I bought one from the local parts place, cost almost $300. It was junk from the day I got it, lights were always flickering.... Lifetime warranty so I'm gonna have it replaced.
In the meantime I bought one from somebody in the classified section for $75 that came off a new motor. works mint.

Having yours rebuilt is the way to go. Find a hole-in-the-wall starter/alternator shop and they'll probably do the best job.

I got one off a fellow member of the SHOtimes list a couple of years ago and it's still going strong.

You could try to find a low-mile junked 3.2L SHO to get one from.

Good luck.

Well, Autozone has one...I just picked it up and it is the same one I bought before...it has a lifetime warranty, so all I am paying is installation, $90.

I tried installing it myself last time...well, the thing did not fit properly! That is, of the 4 bolts didn't line up, so I took it to Pep Boys and they expanded the hole...

Hey, man. My dad used to own a shop that rebuilt starter and alternators. He also hand built marine batteries and car batteries. It wasn't a hole in the wall either wink Anyway, just to rub it in, I rebuilt my own alternator...and starter...and I have a hand made battery thumbs_u

Your best bet is to have it rebuilt. Most places will give you a great warranty on the part. Look in the yellow pages for auto/electrical shops. They are the ones who will do it.

A lifetime warranty is just that, lifetime. If the warranty was issued by pep boys, which I believe it was, they are responsible. They should replace it, even if they have to go to a more expensive one.

I suppose it's overkill, but an alternator rebuild shop is the best bet. They're cheaper and usually better.

There's a 1994 ATX in a junkyard with the engine gone. The alternator is sitting in the car, nice and pretty. I don't know what kind of shape it is in, it looks okay. I can get it shipped for $50 though if anyone's interested.

[email protected] has been working on selling heavy duty 160 amp alternators for the SHO for only $180.00.
I believe by now he may have modified 94 SHO Motorcraft alternators that will also fit earlier SHOs if the buyer gets a 94 brackt and belt. Much better than the Mitsubishi and cheaper.
