Alternator info

Well no one has responded to my other thread so I'm going to start a new one, the old one can be reviewed here.

anyways today I'm going to test my alt, seems SHO replacement alts are death(price wise) and I hear windstar and Explorer alts work on a SHO, but the pn's dont match up on napa from the years I was looking at, what year should I be looking for?

where you finding them for $100, napa's charge is much higher for a reman, at least thats what it says online.

I paid $140 for mine, IIRC.

Oh, and the only alt that will work on the SHO is the one you have now.

Alternator and battery functions are really easy to test on the car.

If the voltage is over ~14V when the engine is running the alternator is good. If the battery reads ~12.5V after sitting for 8 hours the battery is good.

When cranking the battery voltage should not drop below ~11.25V.
