Good day all,
I have seen on here where alt's have gone south only after a few days or months... I have the same issue in my 98...The alt ran for about 60 miles and the output dropped to 11.8V... I installed the engine with the alt on the engine, so my question is simple: How do you get the alt out with the engine in the car?
Thanks all!!

I was planning on using the one that I had gotten with the car, but it didn't seem to agree on the spinning part... I swapped it out with an Advance Auto Parts unit to the tune of $135 (lifetime warranty)... I was under the impression it would last a bit longer than 50 or so miles... It is probably just the regulator, but they won't let me swap just that out.... not that I could get that off the alt in the car any easier than pulling the alt out alltogether... Thanks all and I will let you know how much fun I had pulling it...

Well, I must say, replacing the alt without dropping the subframe was the most interesting thing I have done on this car so far. Word to the wise, if you install the alt on the engine with it out of the car, don't go crazy on the torque on the top bolt... I must have spent over 15 minutes getting that top bolt loose.... Other than that, it was out in 15-20 mins... fishing the alt out with the subframe in place was fun... getting it back in was even more fun... I loosened all the bolts, disconnected everything and then I used my 3/8 drive to remove the belt... I left the drive in the tensioner and had it rest on the subframe so I didn't have to fight with it to put the belt back on... Can it be done without dropping the subframe, sure... will it take longer with a few more cuts, Yep!
Hope this helps anyone... Have fun!
