Ok so the 1990 that I just bought, the previous owner said it needed an alt.....I drove it home but the battery light would come when I turned the lights on....took alt off tonight and had it tested.....came back good! I did notice the plastic protector piece where the hot wire connects to the alternator was melted and the stud is loose where it enters the alt.....can this be shorting or the loose stud be causing my lack or charging issue?

IF you tighten it and it still comes on. Check for a direct short somewhere. I had one do that because there was a frayed wire for an aftermarket alarm system.

All fixed....reinstalled the alt and tightned the hot wire stud (replaced the plastic protector) charged the battery to 100% and all is well....started the car, turned lights, radio, blower, interior lights and NO battery light:swing:
