What are some of the recomended aftermarket alarm systems for the SHO? What else can be done to the SHO to make it more secure. My concern is that I don't want to invest a lot of money into my SHO to have it stolen. Thanks for the input.

Personally, I have lost all faith in car alarms shrug

I now install ignition cut-out switches.
Nothing fools a car thief more than a hidden break (the switch) between the battery and the ignition :D

And if placed in the proper place in the circuit they can double as protection against electrical leaks thumb

I'd have to agree there. But if you must have an alarm get one with a remote starter. You won't be sorry. I use my starter almost everyday...and I love it. thumb

remote starter on a manual car??? Tell me more!!!!
It's not really "safe" to use a remote start on a manual that's not designed for a manual. Yes, they're made. Personally, I have a DEI Hornet 552T with remote start. I like it a lot but I'm probably going to eventually upgrade to the Viper 790XV (2-way paging and 1/4 mile range). If you wanna do remote start on the manual, you've got to short the two clutch switches. At first I just jumpered the leads together, but that's a bad idea. It totally freaks out the electronics and stuff that mess with your tranny and 2, no cruise control. I made a relay pack that uses the "ground when armed" wire to connect the leads. The remote start sequence fires, the wire is grounded, the relays fire and close the connection and everything's peachy :)

How hard is it to install an ignition cut-off switch?? shrug
if you mean a **** switch, pretty damn easy
at the ignition harness( remove the knee bolster and the black metal brace at the bottom of the dash, should be two T40 torx and two 12mm bolts) there will be about 90 12gauge yellow wires. Those are all constant power so bypass all those. There's one wire, not sure of the color right now, if I remember I'll check on Friday when I'm at work, which is only on when the key's in the "run" position. Install a switch on that and click it off. SHO no go

if you're talking about a starter interrupt, tell me and I'll get the colors for you

no cruise control.

One of the switches controls the ignition, the other one controls cruise control, so that it shuts itself off when you touch the clutch pedal. Jump only the ignition switch.

is the ignition the one at the bottom of the clutch travel range or the one it rests on when it's not depressed? If you help me figure this out, you're the man and I'll send you a free sunroof broken mount fixer upper :)

The starter I have is made by JTI. It's specially made for manuals. The reason it's specially made for manuals is because there is a "start reservation" that must be set in order for you to use the starter. It goes something like this:

1. Before exiting the vehicle, you must set the parking brake and leave the car in neutral (while the engine is running).
2. Press button 2 on the remote, remove the key, and exit the vehicle. (The car will still be running.)
3. Press button 1 on the remote (the engine will shut off) and the car is now ready to be remote started.

It's somewhat of a PITA. If you forget to set the reservation, you can't remote start the car. This is the safeguard they use to prevent you from accidentally remote starting the car in gear. But you get used to it, setting the reservation becomes a regular habit.

OK another question on this, what exactly does this procedure do?? Does it **** all power to the car, or just to the ignition?? Would my alarm still function properly if I install a switch on this wire, because I'm considering it.

you can also modify a regular starter alarm to use the wire off your parking brake..the one that sends a signal to turn on the brake light on your dash. This way when the brake is applied and in neutral it will sense it and allow it to start. There are alot more starter alarms for manuals out now, I perfer the Alpine or DEI brand (Code Alarm / Hornet / Viper). Alarms are what put into them. Look at what you need and want..then price. Alarms now have pagers or 2 way keypads to let you know when there is a problem and more visual items help like interior strobe lights and such. Hope this helps, if you have any more questions let me know! thumb
