Air Bag solid light then dash was smoking!

Hi Guys, its been a while and only have time to driver her sometimes on the weekends.
So it was sitting for 2 days, get in and pull down the street, noticed bag light on solid
Pull on to main street and the pass dash starts smoking and beeping ?? stopped and turned off, still beeping carefully got home and cycled ignition several times and chiming stopped. locked car and walked away.
Never seen this one! any thoughts guys??

The air bag module tripped off. You have to drill down on the forum and google and/or Taurus Car Club website for clues about what makes them go off, but I think I recall there is an internal thermal fuse?? The obvious give away is the location of the smoke and that it has a tiny chirpy speaker built into it. Drop the glove box and look for the blue module. Looks like this

Maybe a good used or new unit will cure it or maybe there is a fault in the system that set it off. Haven't messed with one in many years and memory of the system is foggy now.

That makes total sense, it was a little freaky waiting for the bag to pop, and or had fire extinguisher ready! I Still have an 89 was going to restore but no time, parting out probably. Will Gen 1 and Gen 2 swap?? if not I have a wrecker that has a Gen 2 Taurus

The module you have is fixable with a radio shack part. See post #7
