Are all the blue airbag modules from GenII or older SHO's interchangeable? I'm looking at getting a used one for the '93 but want to be sure they don't get year or assembly plant specific.

The module behind the glove box? Looking on ebay, it looks like the SHO one is different from the regular taurus, based on ones available from seller spark-surplus

I'd assume there are different modules for the gen 2 cars that only have a driver's airbag as well.

This is what I found on the original I pulled out. I wonder how many iterations there are? I can't imagine the regular taurus and other models like lincoln (with same airbag config) don't have the same(ish) setup. These are 3rd party stand alone systems sorta like the TEVES ABS brake system they bolt/plumb into the cars.

One of those part number matches the part for sale from spark-surplus. Do these go bad, I've never bothered to pull any of the ones I seen from cars

If the thermal fuse blows. You can get that from electrical grounding issues, clockspring shorts etc. You'll know when the tiny speaker starts beeping behind the glove box. I'm going to get a used replacement and then a few replacement thermal fuses and see if I can bring the original back to life. I'm just trying to get this thing to pass inspection so I can start driving it some more. I don't have ton of money being back in school, and it gets better mileage than my v8 f150.

Pic shows the thermal fuse in a Gen 2 airbag module. I don't think it can be replaced, unlike the Gen 1 modules where it's a simple soldering job.

Well that looks a little different than the other ones I was looking at. You don't happen to have other pics of the outer periphery of the board?

so this white rectangle holding thermal fuse and resistor (center middle at the right edge in pic) is not present on the later board? I see 94ish units from broncos and such with the same setup in this pic

Picture is pretty blurred, Luigi, but I'm guessing that it's a Gen1 airbag module. If so, the thermal fuse can be replaced, unlike the Gen 2s. I'll dig one out later and post a better pic.

Nick, is the thermal resistor and fuse one unit on that GenII module? I was looking for the 2 piece that is inside the white plastic on that pic I posted. whatever the equivalent might be on the board you posted.

Some have issues with the thermal fuse but at the age they are, the capacitors are going/have gone bad. The one that Nick posted looks like a cap leaked all over it. Same issues with the ECUs too that can cause funky issues.
