I'm sure it is possible, if you know how to rewire the plugs that are there to the new CD player. However, it is much more cost-effective to just get a new head unit. If you still want cassette, there are some out there that are double-DIN size that would fit into the opening in the dash with a little work. Aiwa units typically have a line-in as well, so you could plug a walkman-type thing into the input and still listen to cassettes.

Sony sold a seperate in dash cd player that needed a head unit to work. Crutchfield used to carry it, they still might. It was about $100 and in my opinion not worth buying because it would be about that much to buy a new cd player/radio and replace the factory unit.

The Sony cd player would probably require quite a bit of adapting to make it work. The stock radio could probably work it but like I said, you'd be in for some labor.

I use the original head unit and a portable CD player. Go to the shotimes.com website and look for an article on how to wire an external CD to the head unit (without using those crappy CD-tape adapters). I followed the instructions there and set up a switch to change between radio/tape and CD. I even supplied a 5 volt signal to the head unit so that its display says "CD".

I will advise against the SANYO unit. Purchased through Crutchfield, the one I got did not work properly. After three separate repairs (thru Crutchfield), the cd mechanism stopped working all together! Eventually, the warranty expired, along with Cruth's 'help'. The stereo separation sucked, it would not play most burned cd's, and the display was not readable in sunlight! The cass. & tuner worked great and it was loud though.

Use a RF Modulated CD changer in the trunk. The controler display will velcro to your dash somewhere to adjust the tracks
