The AC in my 89 works when charged, but loses the charge in a matter of hours. The mechanic used some dye and UV ligts to determine that both hoses hooked to the compressor are leaking. One is leaking through the hose itself, the other is leaking at the crimped on fitting. He says he called the local Ford dealer and they claim both hoses are obsolete. He called some parts houses and they do not show any replacements.

Anybody have any leads on these lines? I do not want used, I am afraid they won't last. Unless I can find the line, and can find them at a decent price, I am just selling the car. Some younger pup who does not need AC will love to have it I am sure. I will be buying another SHO, just one that has working AC.

Thanks!

The dealership can do a parts search. I had my dealership do that for my AC lines...they are discontinued, but they are still out there.

See if you can track down the obsolete Ford part number. I think I might have one of the lines (new) in the storage unit.

The dealer said he searched, but I could have another one check. I think tomorrow I will go to a different dealer and ask them to do a search, and get the part numbers. Thanks!

Went to a different dealer. Turns out there are two different compressors for the 89 SHO. Only one had obsolete lines though, so that must be mine. The parts guy was able to track down the hoses in Florida, seems they come as a pair. They list at $250, but he would have to contact the dealer to see if he marked them up beyond that. If they charge list, plus shipping, I am looking at $500 to get my AC working. Sell it or fix it.... decisions.....

I did get the part number from him. It is for the pair of hoses.

The part I have is the AC accumulator/drier hose. I think the part # is E9DZ-19C836-C.

I have found a few in stock of the part you are looking for if you want to shop around yourself. Check out http://www.partsvoice.com It'll give you some dealers around the country with the part listed in inventory and contact info.

Hey man, you can have the a/c lines repaired as long as the ends are good. Just take it to any place that sells hose and they'll be able to replace the hose that is leaking and replace/fix the crimped end that is leaking as well. It shouldn't cost more than $60-$80 to fix what you are describing.

Oh yeah, i just ordered and picked up the entire accumulator tank/hose assembly for a '93 ATX from Autozone for $42. It is a Ready AireFour Seasons part as well. Part # 4205B

I tried partsvoice.com and found no results for E6D2-19D734-H, also tried without dashes. I did Google it, and got nothing as well. I Googled "Ford Parts" and put the number in several sites that had part number lookup and did not turn anything up.

The mechanic who looked at my car did not think the high pressure hose could be fixed. While the low side runs at 25-30 psi the high side runs 300psi so just recrimping an end won't hold. I am not a mechanic, I am just passing on what I was told. If I got bad info let me know.

I appreciate the help and don't want to sound negative, I just thought I should mention what I tried so sombeody could say, "You did it wrong silly." if I am.

The line does not have to necessarily be "recrimped". It can be completly redone if you have the hose ends. Your mechanic is wrong. I have had multiple lines repaired and custom lines made as well without ever having leak problems.
Take the line off or have your mechanic take it off and find a place that sells hose, etc. They can completely redo the line.
Companies that make custom hydraulic and a/c hoses have the same or similiar equipment Ford does.

The last set of lines i had custom made up for my 3/4 ton suburban were custom made and long. I did not have any hose ends as well. I spent around $80 for both the low side and high side lines.

Thanks! I know lots of places around here that do hydraulic lines for tractors, but can't think of one that does AC. I will do some searching though. I am finding lots of nice SHOs but not what I really want in my area, so that is pushing me back on the "keep my car" side of the fence.

I think the Ford part you're looking should have Z as the 4th character not the number 2. That's why you can't find anything when you search.

Don't know how far you are from Kansas City or any other large metropolitan area, but in anyplace like that you will find several places that can rebuild most any kind of hose. Most will specialize in hydraulic hoses, but some will do A/c hose as well, since the rebuild process is basically the same. Just check the phone book under hydraulic hoses.

I am an hour from Wichita. I did run into a mechanic friend and he told me where to check in Wichia to get it done. Thanks for the leads, esp Robert!
