Has anyone replaced the ac compressor? Just wondering what kind of job it is and how much of the car has to come off.At least I can see it but looks real tight all around it.

Our compressors aren't known for failing. Now the clutch however....

Diagnosis....

Car cold (sitting for a few hours) Start it up - does A/C work for a little bit? It may help to see if the clutch is engaged by looking at the belt path down there.

If yes, does A/C quit once the car sits and gets hot or gets stuck in traffic? That is a surefire sign that the air gap int eh clutch is too big and needs "adjusted".

If you air never works the system pressure is probably low (you got a minor or major refrigerant leak). Try charging system up, or have your local shop check if they can pull a vacuum on it and pump it back up.

Probably have a leak somewhere ... check fittings but take it to the dealer - they should do a pressure test and repair if leak - should be covered under warranty... UNLESS a stone hit the front condenser and caused the leak - then your SOL.

You must be posting in the wrong section - this isn't the 2010 section.. Even the newest Gen 3 V8 is over 5 years out of warranty...

The AC compressor would not be that hard to change if that is what you have to do. Remove the fan on that side, take the hoses off and remove the upper bolt. The get the two lower bolts from the bottom.

When removing the motor this is done to maintain the refrigerant charge, except the disconnecting of the hoses.

I have a compressor if you need one.

Well I had the system checked out and the compressor is bad, it's not pumping. It has refrigeration and the clutch engages correctly but when it does it sounds like there's gravel in there.I can get a rebuilt from napa for $400.So i guess I'll be screwing with this in a few days. Thanks for all the input.
