As i was driving to school today my rear end kept swaying out or fish tailing, and i looked down at my gauges and my abs gauge was one.

Does anybody have any suggestions? yes i did search the forum for abs problems and got nothing.

if you were fishtailing i dont know how much that would have to do with your ABS as opposed to general traction conditions. have you driven it since then? what were the temps/road conditions like for you this morning? definately look into your ABS problem though.

the conditions were definitely not good this morning but the car doesn't normally react that way. My thought is maybe that the abs failing is making the rear wheels locking up and that is what was causing me to fishtail. Another question i had was does anybody know how to get the codes for the abs?

92SHO16,

It is highly unlikely that a failure in the ABS is causing you braking problem. It is more likely that a brake problem is causing an ABS system reaction, that is a code that lights the ABS light.

The following are some examples; a rear brake caliper has a piston cocked in the bore, a rear brake caliper slide pin(s) is hung up due to corrosion, a rear brake emergency brake cable is sticking, a rear bearing is about to sieze.

The ABS system can be accessed for the codes by a Ford dealership, or an independent garage, that has the "scanner" capable of reading the codes.

The best bet to get the ABS codes is a Ford dealership, IMHO.

Before you spend any money for a dealership to do that, check out your rear breaks (sic) and bearings. I say rear brakes because of the fishtailing you are doing.

You have a VERY hazardous situation that needs to be addressed ASAP. rangerj
