My ABS works great when I start the car and stay under 20mph.
The ABS works, and the brakes don't lock up on snow.

As soon as I reach 20mph the ABS light comes on, and the ABS no longer works. Even if I go back down below 20mph the light stays on and the ABS won't work.

I used a code reader and got the code for pump/modual failure. I find it odd that the pump is bad considering it works well under 20mph. I have checked the rings, and I do not see any breaks. Anyone else ever have this, or anyone have an idea?

I do have a used abs modual/pump, but I lack the tools to bleed the pump.

Bluto,

First, go through the "Pre-Test checks delineated in my ABS post. What specific code number did you get?

Do not assume that the pump is bad. It could be a relay or one of several connections. rangerj

Thanks Ranjer.
I have printed your instructions.
Now i just need slightly warmer weather for the procedures.

Does my piticular situation lead you to believe it may be one thing or another?

Bluto,

First of all leave Olive Oile alone! :D

In answer to your question, No. Your SHO is 10 years old and has 161K on it. Go through the pre-test checks and look at all of the ABS connections carefully for any corrosion or damage.

After that, you do the tests prescribed for your specific code. (We will get that for you.)

Very often the problem is a poor connection, an "open" wire, or a "shorted" or "grounded" wire. If the parts were cheap you could throw parts at the problem until you find the solution. The best way to approach this is by the book, ie DO THE DIAGNOSTICS.

When the ABS amber light is "ON", is the red "BRAKE" light also "ON"? rangerj

When you first start the vehicle, the ABS goes through a self test. The FIRST time you reach 20 MPH, the ABS does another self test. If your ABS light comes on only at the second self test, the problem resides in one of the sensors at the wheels. It could be a cracked sensor ring, a bad wire in a sensor, or even a dirty sensor. The sensor is pretty much just a magnet. Get under the car and inspect those sensors and rings.

Thank you both. I was looking for a short cut(its cold outside). Rob I think I will start with the wheel sensors using ranjers test method and work my way to the brain. Your 2nd self test info helps.
