I have a problem with my ABS, so I have been running it deactivated. But I would like to do some rear bias plugs, and so would like to get the ABS functioning properly first.

The issue is that the system seems to work normally until nearly stopped....then from about 15-0 mph, the pedal starts pulsing, and the car kind of lurches to a rough stop. This is under normal, gentle braking, so there is no reason for the ABS to be activating. I have replaced all pads, rotors, and 3 calipers, none of which solved this problem. The ABS light is not illuminated. I don't know enough about ABS to diagnose this, and I don't have the cash to start replacing parts at random. Basically, I just need some direction on solving this.........

Also, under near-lockup stops, I have found that I can stop the car in significantly shorter distances by avoiding lockup on my own (ABS deactivated) than by letting the ABS do the thinking. This is testing from a given speed, braking from a given point, to a complete stop....I can outbrake the ABS every time. Is this an indication of a problem in the ABS system, or is our ABS just not that great??

Thanks guys! :salute:

You have a bad wheel sensor somewhere, or a dirty/ cracked tone ring. Inspect the 4 sensors and tone rings.

this is a known fact. The abs just ensures that you will not lock up the brakes. As if they did it would be a longer distance then with the abs on. But if you can accoomplish this(it is called Thresh hold braking) then you will always stop shorter than with the abs engauged. When the abs kicks on you really dont have all the control over the brakes, unless you let off the pedal. Its tricky to get down, but finding a nice big open parking lot, or empty road would be a good place to practice this technique...
