Anyone have them? Are they on those Ford CDs that we could download. Still having issues with this speedo cutting out!

Ever see the p0500 from a bad module Paul? It's driving me nuts because after cleaning the connection, it's become intermittent. Once I find a bloody module I'll be swapping that too.

I never got a DTC only a flipped out speedo/tranny.

You will see what is the #1 suggestion for the problem listed below. You can easily check the sensors and circuit with a volt meter set on AC volts and spinning the hubs. It will generate a small AC square wave current defendant on wheel speed. The fronts a have a higher reading than the rear. This is done from the ABS connector.

DF1 DTC P0500: CHECK VEHICLE SPEED PID
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0500 indicates the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detected an error in the vehicle speed information received from the ABS control module.

Possible causes:

Damaged ABS control module.
Damaged ABS wheel speed sensors.
Damaged ABS wheel speed sensor harness circuits.
Open in ABS control module to PCM harness circuits.
Short to ground in ABS control module to PCM harness circuits.
Damaged PCM.

Hrmm... that makes it sound as if all the sensors are used to calculate the signal rather than just the front right. The other thing that really has me wondering is the ground to the module. A whole lot of stuff underneath has not weathered well (It was a NE car originally) and the module itself has oxidized a whole lot. I think I may take a good long look at the box and wiring until I can get my hands on a new module.

Any year in particular I should look for I keep seeing the '99 one mentioned (I assume because of the high speed drop in signal?). Thanks Paul!

I would think any year is good. But avoid the '98.

The ABS does not use the right front exclusively for the speed signal.

Thank you again Paul. I've been driving it until a few days ago when the speedo totally died, pulled out all the grounds I found and a good amount were corroded, but fixing that didn't help, now on to the hunt for a new module.

Anyone hapen to have the ford part number for the bloody '99 one? (I'll take tips on swapping it out so I don't have to cycle the crap out of it to bleed the air!) TIA!!

Not an easy item to change. I had the advantage of the battery tray support already removed and did most of the work from the bottom.

The module will have the individual output lines closed by the solenoids so no fluid loss or air entrance will happen there. The two mail lines coming from the MC will drain the MC down when disconnected so they are self flushing. I just bent the two lines up enough to preven the MC from draining.

When I was done I just took the car out onto a gravel road and locked up the brakes a dozen time or so to let the ABS pump some fluid through the module.

Sweet, good news all around for a change. I just found a '99 module for $125 shipped, I'm assuming that is a reasonable price.

My neighbor has a reverse bleeding (pressure) system, think that would be better? I have plenty of gravel roads down here, but I've had really good luck cycling the things using wet roads. Either should be fine for this I think. Thanks for the help Paul!!

I did not have to crack any of the bleeder screws at the calipers when i did mine.
