What could be causing my ABS light to stay on and my ABS going off prematurely. Could it be that the sensor is slightly damaged from a previous incident or what? And how do I get my airbag light to stop blinking; what causes it to blink in the first place? laughing

Ok I can do that for the ABS but what if they are plugged in all the way, then what? And what about the blinking airbag light, how do I stop it from blinking and what causes it to blink? headbang

There is a code to be read from the airbag light. Count the blinks. If the airbag and the antilock are problematic it could be a power or ground fault somewhere.

The airbag light is blinking 3 times and pause and it just keeps on going. And with the ABS it's just malfunctioning, it was ok b4 I had to change my steering knuckle and cv joints cause the old cv joints were rubbing into the sensors.

I'll email you the diagnostic procedure for the 3 flash trouble code. Hopefully you can make use of it.

SHOstuff,

Please do not fool with ANY AIRBAG connections with the battery connected. If you want to clean and reconnect airbag connections, disconnect the negative battery cable and let the car set for several minutes before connecting or disconnecting ANY AIRBAG connection.

An accidental deployment of the airbag could ruin your whole day! rangerj

I'll send the 6 blink protocol via emails...ranger j's point should be noted for sure. You could get hurt and they're very expensive to replace.

There are connections to the system from all the sensors relayed to the computer and the bag is wired to the system directly through wire connectors on the steering wheel itself. You don't want to monkey with anything in the system until you are sure there's no power in the system.
If you wanted to remove the actual drivers airbag you would remove screws on the backside of the wheel and unplug the spade connectors behind the bag itself on the inner part of the wheel.

Shostuff,

You will have to look at a service manual for your model year. There a couple of impact sensors up front mounted to the radiator support. There are also connections for the airbag in the "clockspring" module, which is also under the steering wheel.

There may also be one or more "harness to harness" connections. Most of the "under the hood" harnesses flow through the firewall at the 60 pin connector.

The clockspring and the impact sensors are the most common failures. To get at the clockspring the airbag has to be removed.

Again, I warn you, do NOT fool with any airbag connection unless you have disconnected the battery and waited for a few minutes. A small amount of static electricity can set off the airbag.

The airbag is deployed by an explosion, the force generated is tremendous, and the gas that inflates the bag is super hot. If you remove the airbag always point it away from you, put it facing up, and put it someplace safe.

Handle it as if it were a bomb, because it is! rangerj
