I was doing some light racing with a friend for fun today, and on my 1-2 shift, he said there was a bit of light blue smoke. Is this a tuning issue? From memory of what i've read, it sounds like it (too much fuel?). I've just bought a laptop, so sometime down the road, a tweecer will be purchased as well. (that'll let me get my 80mm MAF in there as well)
Side question: Does the tweecer software work with Macs?

Thanks for the help.

Typically, blue smoke from the tailpipe indicates that the engine is burning oil, whereas black smoke will indicate a rich condition.

How many miles have clocked on your '89's 3.0L?

Unfortunately, no.

its got a 3.2 in there now, with a full 60/120k done on it in november. i've never noticed any coloured smoke before hand, and my friend didnt' notice it during any other shifts or at any other time.

It is possible that your puff of smoke was a one-time occurance and that the engine was only burning a few drops of oil at that particular moment. Even so, it definitely wouldn't hurt to keep a watch on it.

How many miles are on your "new" 3.2L? Any word on the maintenance history?

What's worse is that I don't see a Mac version coming from Mike anytime soon.

If it's any consolation, though, you are not alone in your plight. ;)

by now, probably a couple thousand or so. It doesn't get driven a whole lot.

Is there an email address i should be sending "persuasive emails" to?

(Mods, could this be moved over to the engine maintenence section? thanks! :thumb: )

It's been a couple thousand miles since you swapped engines or on the motor itself (e.g. it was rebuilt)?

The only e-mail that I am at liberty to give out is [email protected]. ;)

a couple thousand since we replaced all gaskets etc from the in-place heads up/the swap.

Hm, i've discovered that theres a program (Bootcamp) that allows you to run windows parallel to mac OS. Does the software need windows only, or will it just not run off of a mac period?

So combined with your mileage since the swap, how many total miles are on the engine now?

Based upon the information that I've read, you should have no problem installing or using the TwEECer software on your Mac if you are utilizing an add-in like Boot Camp. If you can boot into a Windows environment, then you can use the TwEECer software.

with bootcamp, you have to have the Mac with the intel processor, will not work with the Motorola chipset

Yep - if you can boot up and operate in a Windows environment, then you can use the TwEECer software. ;)

good to hear. :)

a note on the oil: I've had one oil change since the 500miles after the swap/rod bearings (driven less than 3000km since then). 2 weeks ago, i noticed that the oil level was at about the 1/2 mark so i topped up. I've been checking every other day, and driving every day since, and noticed no drop in oil level, and it was the same previous to that occassion. very odd.

Its pretty normal with a higher miles engine - You were seeing a little oil come past the valve guides and seals. They'll leak under high vacuum (ie, high rpm shifts)... I wouldn't worry about it much.

She's got a timeline/plan set out for her life, and because she's older, she is slightly more "pressed for time" than i am. :type:
