I have a 1993 mtx sho. Well on my break from work i just got out of a wendy's. I pull out in 1st gear and i took her to 5k. I shifted into 2nd lost power and finally she stalled. I am thinking the crank sensor. She wont start back up either. Whats all your opinions? Any insight would be appreciated.

Any trouble codes?

Does the water pump leak, is there loss of coolant?

does the tach move when you crank the engine?

Check the connections on the DIS. Bad retaining clips + weak motor mounts + hard shift = 4 way flashers on the shoulder because you yanked the connector out of the DIS.

Timing belt broke
Or
Subframe dropped and disconnected DIS
Or
Crank Sensor

Three things that come to mind right away...

Both of those are good answers for you to start with. Another thing to do is when you're sittin in the car, preferably at a quiet moment, cycle the key to the "on" position (just before you start it) and leave it there for a moment. You should hear your fuel pump whine. If not, there you go.

But I'd lean more towards a crank sensor being the likely culprit. Like what's-his-name said, watch the tach needle when you're cranking it. If it don't budge, you just bought yourself a front 60k.

Thanks guys. The tach does move. My buddy on the forum told me the same stuff. Could also be a bad ground somewhere. Anyway he is sending me a DIS and a coil pack just in case. I am gonna try that first.

Actually guys..i think its the fuel pump. It will not make the whining priming noise when you first turn the ignition on.

Make sure there is power to the pump.

There is a bundle of wires running down the drivers side of the car, to the left of the drivers seat, under the carpet. All you need is a phillips head screwdriver to remove the trim, then peel back the carpet.

The connectors get very corroded and eventually fail. The fuel pump is on a black heavier guage wire with a white stripe.

While you are in there, you can put a volt meter on that lead and make sure that when you turn on the key, you get 13 or so volts.

the other black wire is for the powerlocks and the seats, they are in separate bundles.

what's worse is the week after doing a fuel pump, sitting in the staging lanes at the local 1/4 track, and getting yelled at to shut it down cuz you're leakin fuel all over the place.....made it almost home before I ran out of gas. Walked 4 miles to the house and the next day drove out, dropped the tank (on the side of the freeway off ramp) and found the fuel return line had popped off thanks to a broken plastic clip.

Speakin of which, when you replace the pump (i recommend the Walbro 155lph), make sure you replace the rubber gasket between the tank and the pickup, and the lil plastic clips that hold the fuel lines in place.
