Hi guys. Hoping I can get some help with my A/C unit. When the car is cold and the setting on max air, I have cold air. After driving for about 20 minutes, the air turns warm. There are no unusual sounds, the air flow is the same. Sometimes the air will stay warm, and sometimes it will go back to blowing  cold again. It is possible that the times it went back to cold after being warm that I had opened the windows to get some fresh air. If any one has a solution, that would be great. It is bloody hot up here in BC right now. Half the province is on fire, and some cold air when driving would be nice. Many thanks. Woody.

When the air blows hot, check to see if the compressor clutch is engaging. If it's not, check the gap. I don't remember gap spec off hand, I think it should be .038" though. If it's out of spec, it's either time for a new clutch or try the procedure of removing the spacers. Do a search and check out SHOTimes.com.
My A/C has the same symptoms, but mine is due to a bad connection at the coil. The connector is broken.

I am having the same problems. I can tell when mine is fixing to start blowing warm because it starts smelling humid. Can anyone give me more details on where to look? I don't really know what I'm doing.

KDAWG,

Get a connector at a dealership parts department, at a salvage yard (excuse me, an Auto Recycling Yard), or maybe one of the forum members who has a parts car can send you one. Splice the wires and solder the connection.

Woody,

The gap for the 10P15F (SHO compressor) is .021 to .036 for the 1990 model year. Later model years changed the specification slightly. Check your model year.

See todays other A/C posts for a description of how to adjust the gap. If that does not solve your problem; 1. pressure test the system, if OK,

2. test the clutch coil by putting the key in the "on" position (not running) and the low pressure switch jumped. The coil should become a strong magnet. If not, the coil is defective. Make sure you are getting battery voltage at the coil, if not, look for a connection problem or broken wire.

Lara,

Look at a service manual. They can be found in your local library. Read up on the A/C system and its components. When you think you can identify the parts and their location get back to us and we will "talk" you through some tests. rangerj

That's what I should have done, but I don't really have time right now and I'm hoping to sell the car soon, and I've already got too much $$$ in it as it is. So I just hit the connector with some super glue to hold it for now. Worked fine in all of my driving today.
 <---Me nice and cool with my A/C that works all the time, unless the pedal's on the floor.

I had the same problem on my 94 and it turned out to be a bad clutch. The gap was ok but when it became hot it disengaged. Put on a new clutch and it works great. First time in 2 years I have had A/C :)
