I'm trying to obtain new parts for my A/C system. Motorcraft site gives the followinig:

Ford OEM________Motorcraft____Description_______________Rock Auto $
F1OY 19D734 D___YF2096_______Manifold & Tube Assmbly_____114.79
E8DZ 19C836 B___YF1867_______AC Accumulator/Drier/Parts___140.79
F5XZ 19D990 AB__YG345________Fixed Orifice Tube_____________3.??
E5VY 19D695 B___YF2007_______Fixed Orifice Tube Kit__________28.??

Is this all I need? It seems like I need two more parts.

Arizona Mobile Air Inc. (ACKits.com) lists a "Liquid Line", their part #:
61575MD, $28.62.

Motorcraft and Rock Auto don't list this part. But it seems like I would need this part and two or three more.

A/C System:

YF1867 is evaporator outlet to compressor suction.
YF2096 is compressor discharge to condenser inlet.
????1 is from condenser outlet to orifice tube inlet (liquid line?)
YG345 is is from ????1 (liquid line?) outlet to ????2 inlet.
????2 is from orifice tube outlet to evaporator inlet.

????1 Part Number:
????2 Part Number:

Also the diagram for YF1867 does not seem to the compressor suction fitting. Is this part of YF1867 but just not shown?

AC Kits lists YF1867 at $77.79 - half of Motorcraft part at Rock Auto. the image shown on AC Kits looks similar to the Motorcraft image, but I'm not sure if it is exactly the same.

Which should I go with? My instinct says go with Motorcraft as the A/C parts near the compressor are extremely tight fitting and there is no room for error.

Is my parts list correct?

:salute:

If you purchase the liquid line, it already contains the o-tube. The o-tube kit is used (one time) when cutting out an old o-tube without replacing the whole liquid line. The liquid line runs from the condensor outlet to the evaporator inlet. The 4S liquid line is only $25 at O'Reilly's.

Most of these parts are available aftermarket from 4 Seasons: http://www.4s.com/webcatalog/cataloglook.aspx?Site=FourSeasons I've used their liquid line and several other parts with no problems.

If you need it, here's my marked up copy of the Ford parts dept printout for the system.

89 SHO parts should all start with the prefix E9DZ-

The o-rings and springs are available from AutoZone and elsewhere. See my post from earlier this week around here somewhere.

Thank you, you are a life saver. :hail:

Midway Auto sells a complete o-ring and garter spring kit for ford, sizes: #6, #8, #10, #12 for about $18; 60 pieces.

"All SHO parts sart with E9DZ-"

But Motorcraft lists for "1989 Ford Taurus V6-182 3.0L DOHC" OEM parts starting with different prefixes. Rock auto shows same OEM part numbers.

I guess I should have said "Parts that were unique to the 89 SHO began with the prefix ED9Z. Many have since been superceded (or obsoleted)...." There's an article in the FAQs at www.shotimes.com I think, that explains the Ford part numbering protocol from that era. Basically, a four digit prefix, a 4-7 digit base number, and a 1 or two alpha suffix. The four digit prefix identified the first year of part usage and the specific product if unique. The 6 or 7 digit number on these diagrams is the base number.

Here's another page, this one from the 89-specific service manual that shows the actual system as installed.

WARNING! THIS DIAGRAM USES ENGINEERING, NOT PARTS DEPT NUMBERS. DO NOT USE THESE NUMBERS FOR PARTS QUERIES!

Those seal and o-ring kits should correspond to 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", and 3/4". You will also need four (4) seals for where the manifold hoses connect to the compressor. They're either 5/8" or 3/4". My local parts dept had them under the counter in a plastic box. Red in color. Green ones of the same size will also work.

I can get those 2 parts for you brand new in the box OEM Ford and most likely much cheaper than what is listed on Rock Auto. Let me know if interested.

OK, I was going to ask you where to get the compressor seals for the manifold hoses. I can see the outline of them on the manifold brackets - there is hardly anything left of them as they are flattened completely and stuck to the manifolds. They are red as you state.

So are these specific to the compressor model or as you say, can I just get generic green ones? But if I go generic, I have to guess at the thickness of the ring since same size o-rings come in different ring thicknesses.

When you say "local parts department", is that at a dealership?

Thanks for your help.

Where in Huntington Beach and at what time? I'm only a few minutes away. I'll bring my spare intake manifold with me that I rebuilt and painted with Bill Hirsch engine enamel in black. I also cut some gaskets from a Kevlar/rubber material that rare blue in color. They look pretty cool, although one can only see the edges on the manifold

I think I've come up with a technique to stop the oil leaking from the valve cover bolt gaskets. I can show you that.

But be warned, my SGO is an '89 and was vandalized; hopefully I will get it repainted soon. I have Wet Okole seat covers but need to order new ones. You guys have AWESOME looking SHO's.
