(92 MTX) Does anyone know where in the **** the orifice tube is located (ie. which hose)? Also, none of the Ford dealers can seem to make up their minds wether the tube is serviced by itself or if you need to buy the complete hose assem. Any help is welcome!!!

The oriface, which serves the same purpose as an expansion valve, is located in the high pressure line. It is the smaller of the two lines that carries the liquid to the evaporator. The oriface can be bought as a seperate item and spliced into the line as a replacement.

The Ford techs I know ALL recommend replaceing the entire line as a unit. The success rate for a leakless splice is very low. You can get the oriface line for about $40 at most auto parts stores.

Ditto. Just cheap enough to replace. The line itself actually runs under the battery, so you will have to remove the battery. Make sure you have the proper quick disconnect tools, and the job is easy. Since you have a 92, are you still running R12, or was it converted?

Still running R12. Never has leaked. Still has the origional charge from 92. However, the orifice is plugged and needs to be replaced. Anyway, which hose is it under the battery inner or outer???

I believe it is the innner, but just to be sure trace it. It starts at the top of the condenser and leads to the middle of the firewall behind the motor.

About pulling the Liquid line, mine looks so close to the exhaust manifold heat shield that I don't think I will have enough clearance w/o removing either heat shield or lifting / dropping the motor a few inches. Has anyone had to do this, or just pull the line (after the system is properly evacuated ofcourse) and had enough clearance between the firewall and the exhaust manifold heat shield?
