Took the car down to the local AC shop, and was quoted at a $1,000 for a new evaporator and drier install. Does anybody have any detailed information on how I can go about performing this job myself? Any help would be truly appreciated.

Well, the parts aren't the expensive part, it's the labor.

The dashboard has to come out, then the heater box, the heater box has to be taken apart and the evaporator replaced, and then the process reversed.

The accumulator/receiver/drier and hose is less labor intensive but still a pain in the ass.

Shop around for prices. You should be able to have it done for around $600.

Thanks for the reply, but you can you give a little more detail? I know the whole dash can come out as a complete unit but where are the bolts located at, and is it that simple just to pull the bolts and yank out the dash?
