My attempt to install a new field coil and clutch while the compresssor was on the car eventually failed after two weeks of running. I could not fully seat the snap rings and I guess they didn't hold, as smoke coming from the hold revealed a frozen pully which didn't turn as the belt travelled around it.

So I will attempt to intall a new compressor.

Here is a list from rock auto.

Other vendors are Ready-Aire and Factory Air.

When I bought the kit for the field coil, there were many choices and someone on this forum was kind enough to indicate that I needed to purchase the kit for 10P15F for my compressor.

The parts fit perfect.

 So why all these other choices besides 10P15F. The only compressor that looks like mine in the pictures at RockAuto is shown as the 10P15F compressor for Four Seasons and ACDelco.

 Why the heck are these two so expensive??!!

I pulled a compressor off a '94 or '93 and it looked EXACTLY like mine and the 10P15F in the pictures.

It needs a new field coil and pully so I need to buy the kit again.

But THIS TIME I can install the coil, pully, and clutch plate with the compressor easily in front of me and then can properly seat the snap-rings.

Any advice or suggestions -

 Buy a new compressor (which one?) OR

try the compresssor off the '94 after installing a new field coil, pully, etc.

Thanks.

All V6 SHO's use the Nippondenso 10P15F compressor. You just have to decide new or reman, and with clutch or without. To keep a warranty with a new or reman compressor, you're going to need to replace the accumulator and hose along with the liquid line with integral orifice for the warranty to be honored.

They are expensive because they are unique. If you drove a SLO, you'd be spending less.

If you use a used compressor, just make sure it gets flushed out first, and you put in the correct amount of PAG oil. Oh, and the system on your car is going to need a good vacuum to eliminate any moisture after changing the compressor.

Well, then the heck with the warranty!

I just replaced EVERYTHING in the A/C system EXCEPT the evaporator and condenser.

I know Ford states that everytime you open the system to the atmosphere, you must put in a new accumulator / drier.

I went through too much #@!# to put that in, so I'm not doing it again!

I have an assortment of plugs and I'll plug all the exposed hoses or wrap and tape the ends with heavy plastic.

I'll either rent a vacuum pump from Autozone or bring it to a shop to be recharged.

I have the Mastercool leak detection kit with UV dye, light, and yellow glasses and a set of manifold gauges, so I'll be sure to make sure there are no leaks and I'm operating the system at the right pressures.

I'm on a mission now to get this thing fixed once and for all! :duel:

Even it it seems like I am ===> :deadhorse:

I just installed an Alpine deck and new door speakers, and it sounds awesome, but not with the windows closed while it's 90-100°F outside.

If I can't fix it I mine as well remove the stereo, because even when it is a decent temp outside, you still can't enjoy the music (mostly classical) with the windows open.

Thanks for your help.

:thankyou:
