Ok, not sure if this is normal, but when the a/c is on, you can feel at a steady rate, the a/c engaging and disengaging. It happens about every 15 seconds and causes the car rpms to jump and fall. Should it be that noticeable? Should it be happening that often?

The air gets super cold, so the the system is fine as far as everything else is concerned.

Does it interfere with your driving or throttle response at all? If it doesn't, then don't worry about it.

If your car is driving okay and it's blowing cold, no reason to seek a solution for a problem that doesn't exist :)

My 94 ATX did that, and it was annoying as **** on the highway. Cooled fine though, you wouldn't notice it in the city. Sold it before I ever found a solution. My 93 atx doesn't do it at all, thankfully.

ya, it messes with the throttle a bit, the car will accelerate on its own when it kicks in, you can feel it both on the highway and in city driving. When sitting idle you can sit and watch it go from about 900RPMs upto about 1200-1300RPMs and then back down when it disengages. I just seems like it is pulling way to much on the engine and it is compensating by revving up a little higher.

IIRC, The A/C Compressor on the SHO (And a lot of modern cars) Disengages when you are at WOT. However, If the A/C Compressor is engaging every 15 seconds or so, I would think that you maybe need to check the clutch gap in the compressor. I'm battling this issue with my Frontier as it just popped up, I've just been to lazy to take it to the dealership.

what is WOT?

usually that is a sign of low refrigerant.
get someone to hook a gauge to it and see where your at.

Ok, i will run it over to the shop today and see if they find anything. They have a $45 a/c service, so if thats all it is then I will happily pay that, mostly because I don't like to mess with freon loaded stuff, scares me :)

Try cleaning out the throttle body. Just remove the rubber throttle body intake, spray some throttle body or carb cleaner in there (you can manually open the throttle wide open) and clean out the black deposits. It smoothes out those engine surges. I do it about every 15K miles on my '92 and it makes a difference with the a/c compressor-induced surges.
