I'm about to replace my second AC clutch coil for a similar problem. When it is not working, pop the hood and see if the clutch is engaging. Then take it from there, different fixes if it is turning or not.

To me it sounds like A A/C pressure switch. I have seen many. Alot cheaper and easier fix too

You had better check to see if your radiator fan is running. If it isn't, not only will your A/C be less effective, but your engine's cooling system will not be having as much heat removed. The fan should be running constantly with the climate control in any mode but VENT and FLOOR.

I have noticed that the air being discharged from the vents may increase as much as 15 degrees when the car has been stopped in traffic for a long period of time on a hot (100 degrees) day. To remove the heat from the refrigerant, there must be air flowing through the condensor (and the radiator for the engine cooling system). Hence the fan running continuously.
