So now everything is clocked correctly and in place but now the issue is it still doesn’t move air and the actuator is clicking and grinding now. Could it be the hvac computer?

I’m not 100% sure but your explorer might be a bit more buried than ours. View attachment 15859Thankfully I haven’t had to find out cause it still doesn’t look like the most fun you’d have that day but ours is plenty accessible from underneath.
I clocked the actuators correctly and made sure all of them were clocked right put them on and connected them to the harnesses but they still won’t actuate the doors. Any more advice or ideas? I thought it might have been the hvac control module the ac computer.

Hmm, the only thing I can think of to try would be try it with the actuator plugged in but out and see if the actuator itself is responding to your commands. If it’s turning you know it’s trying to work, if it’s not moving at all then you know it’s not receiving the signal to move. That would give you at least something to go on.

I did I tested it first before trying to put it in and it is unclocked it and it didn’t work when I tried to put it in of course. But due to some good advice here I reclocked it to the proper position installed it and plugged it but still nothing. It is sitting under the dash now making clicking and grinding sounds so I left it installed and un plugged it and her it is unplugged now haven’t tried messing with it again fixing to bite the bullet and take it to a stealership

Hmmm, interesting. I'm just reaching here in order to try and help, but mind if I ask what you did to clock it?

In the video, it shows him taking apart the old one to get the gear out so that he can insert that gear to find where the latching mechanism (not sure how to describe it) is sitting at and turning it so that the new one interlocks properly.

This may have been what you did, so apologies if its already been tried. Your description of how it is behaving right now makes it sound like it isn't interlocked properly with the mechanism.

So when I plugged it in to see if the actuator has power it started to move on its own. And it will keep making circle round and round and not stop. All I did was pull the wiring harness from the actuator when the arrows lined up. Then I took a flathead screw driver and turned the directional key in the duct the right way to line it up with the actuator than is now lined up with the arrow put it in and bolted everything back up it should have worked no problem. But still the same story.

That’s strange indeed. The actuator itself has no actual knowledge of the position of the blend door. It only knows when clocked correctly it’s gear position should put the blend door in X position. So, it spinning nonstop makes no sense.

Unless, and I have no idea if this is true, the actuator sees a load when the door stops in either full open or close. Might be a question for @Johnbigdog

Is there a way we can tag him into this conversation? Here is what I am thinking it makes turns in the actuator but just because it lines up doesn’t mean it is clocked let’s say it is like a steering wheel you turn from lock to lock as the driver the steering wheel may be perfectly straight or level but it is one turn to the left or right. Could that be confusing the computer or actuator?

My last resort is I will return or replace the actuator with yet another new one and I will leave perfectly clocked from the factory and just do a simple install if that doesn’t work then it will have to be stealership time.

I tagged him.

The one I did was like four years ago now and I can’t remember what the situation was for clocking it correctly. I’m sorry if I’m not much help.

It’s all good all help was appreciated there some advice in this thread that was absolutely invaluable and the mention of proper clocking was something I was completely overlooking too.
