My a/c compressor seems to be always engaged unless I set the temp to like 90 degrees.

My car has been overheating in town after say 1/2 hour or so of normal city driving. I did some searching here and decided to replace the ECT. The fan was on before replacing the ECT, but seems to be at a slow speed.

I wasn't able to find any clear answer on if our fan has 2 speeds, but I think it does?

The fan is on with max a/c and even on panl/floor at say 68 degrees, but the a/c just stays engaged? Do I have a bad fan, bad ccrm? What would cause the a/c to stay engaged and not cycle off as the auto temp is set at like 72 degrees?

The only thing I did about a month ago as I was diagnosing a now fixed a/c issue was the sensor on the accumulator has a screw you can back out which I did? Turns out that didn't fix my a/c issues; it was the connector on the compressor broken and causing the wired side to slip off and disconnect (now fixed).

Sorry for the long post, just want to know why my a/c seems to be always on, causing my car to heat past NORMAL even so to cause coolant to escape down the radiator cap overflow tube.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

the 89-93 MTX's have a single speed fan (2 wire), the 94-95 MTX's have a dual speed (3 wire) fan

If you messed with the screw on the accumulator that could be your problem. The set the pressure at which the compressor comes on.

Is there any method to determine the right gap? Ya know like you do when setting a carb....closed then 1 1/2 turns...that sort of thing?

The A/C compressor will intermittently engage and the radiator cooling fan will run constantly if the climate control is set to anything other than OFF, VENT or FLOOR. This is independent of ambient temperature.

Thanks for the tips.

I turned the screw until it would cycle, but it will cycle every 15 to 20 seconds. If I back the screw out even one turn it will go back to always on.

Is it the accumulator sensor or the clutch gap?

Short cycling of the A/C compressor is indicative of low refrigerant pressure. Get the pressure checked.

The pressure was checked not a month ago and was okay. When the car is at normal operating temp and I either back out or turn in this screw on the accumulator sensor it will vary the time the compressor cycles. What's normal cycle time?

I had it cycle every 15 seconds or so last night, however this mornings ride it would cycle every 8 seconds. I'm still confused as to the nature of this sensor and that screws function.

I'll have the system checked again today to be sure.
