A friend of mine just picked up a '98 SHO at auction for $650. Under 50K miles too.
The only problem he has is the transmission behavior.
Cold: Works fine, though he found it was overfilled by 1".
Hot, the tranny doesn't work at all. Nada, Zilch.
Ideas?
Both of us have Tranny coolers around we could put in, and I suggested a Trans-Go kit regardless of the car's condition.
I have not run the codes (he just picked it up today and I haven't seen it).
Thanks in advance!

Run the codes, because it should have some if the car won't move w/ a warm trans.

What happens when you warm up the car? - does it stop working regardless of what gear it is in when it gets 'hot'?

Could that be a bunch of metal shreds/shards jamming up the tran fluid filter after it's been running for a little while, whereas when left cold, the particles gradually fall out with gravity?

I replaced the pump in the car with no issues. I had an issues where the filter was loose and cold the fluid would get by but warm it would leak past. When the car is warm check the fluid to see if there are bubbles in it.

Well, it sat for the winter, and today my buddy went through the whole car. The Tranny was overfilled with pretty lousy fluid, so he changed all the fluids. It drives fine now! He was going to give it to his wife (He drives a Lincoln LSC), but now that he has had time to play with it, I think he is going to keep it for himself.

Wierd mystery, sorry it took so long to get back to it, but there it is!
