coils, plugs, plug well seals...

If the misfire is bad enough that he can't drive to you, it could be a camshaft failure. In which case it may run, but barely. Not uncommon if the camshafts weren't welded...

Is it rough, or barely alive?

A coil is the most common cause of missing in our motors. It would act like it is running on 7 cylinders but still make fair power on a test drive.

A rear head cam failure frequently runs, not great, but it can hold an idle. On a test drive it will feel like 4 flat tires and the emergency brake is pulled when you try to accelerate.

its fires up great, and frog hops a little like a 200 rpm range. it drives just fine just a little hesitant. but it sounds like a plugs is missing ot the egr is not connected.

Well if it drives alright other than being a down 1 cylinder, I would say go for it if you got time to break down the intake and everything to get to the back. (and if the price reflects accordingly)
And when you say the plug is "missing", are you referring to a plug that is blown out of the head of just a bad plug. I just ask because you mentioned you felt air blowing or something... Not really sure where or what you felt.

Check the codes P030X will be a misfire code. X representing the cylinder number. Move that coil to another cylinder. See if within a day or so the code for the new cylinder shows up. If so, get a new coil. That is a trick that worked for me.
