White '97 122K cams not welded. Gray CLOTH gut. Had to rewire somebody's **** poor starter installation. Transmission was overfilled, leaked down to proper level. One turn broken off left front spring. Clean and body in good shape except for ditch side sill plate (under the ground effects) shows some rust. This is worth fixin if I can find the sheet metal.

I bought it right. Everything works. I'd like to try and keep the SARC system functional however need to find driver's strut and spring, as strut spring perch has problems due to broken spring.

I'm way familiar with regular Taurii as I've been using them for daily drivers for years. This came up on my local C/L and I couldn't resist.

What I would like to know is if I cannot maintain the SARC system, what are the P/N's for moog springs folks here have used? Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice. I am well aware of the cam issue....I found a video with sound on some SHO site labeled as pre-cam sprocket failure sound. My motor is dead quiet...sounds nothing like the video clip.... may risk this a while as welding from reputable shop near me is more than the cost of the car! :thankyou:

Best,

Paul

Username is the same I use everywhere. I was a BMW owner.. M6, 635CSi's, 740's etc. No more time for the bimmers.

Given the fact that you bought the SHO locally up there I'd almost be willing to bet the cams are already Kirk welded.

This could well be, however the guy I bought it from was the second owner, and he bought it in 1998.

What it'll come down to is I'll pop a valve cover and have a look for myself. I'm not going to be driving this daily in the near future anyway. Other items that need fixin' are coming first prior to it getting too cold for this 55 year old.

Paul

Nice find !!!! Search the threads it saved me plenty!!!!!
Remeber get the cams welded yesterday. Its very addictive to just get a V8 SHO up and running and forget about welding it then bam!
Trust me I moved mine around in and out the garage when I first got it to get the brakes lines fixed, then got cams welded.
I respect BMW's but when you get this up and running to your prefrence you'll be hooked.

On your front bumper the plate bracket is nissing, thats why the holes are off. It's another one of the SHO only parts.

I had my cams welded at 147K+ soon after I got the car. Sending the wife out on extended road trips with out the welds, I would not even consider! The engine is now coming up on 236K and it has not skipped a beat.

There is somthing to be said about piece of mind.

Good advice about the cam welding. This is on the to-do list.
I had a nice talk with Kirk last weekend at NESHO in Spencer.

My top priorities are installing the new Y-pipe as the car sounds like ass 'cause of the hole in the y-pipe now, and swapping out left front strut assembly as this has a broken spring. Kirk hooked me up with a nice pair of SARC struts complete. This will solve the safety and crappy sound issues. 99% of the body is good, except for the sill plate under the passenger's rear door. This will be the next issue to be adressed with new steel as I want to stop any further deterioration prior to possibly driving this in the winter months.

Then...........cam weld. Basically the car won't be going far at all until after the welding. In fact the longest trip most likely will be the 26 miles to Kirk's shop.

Thanks for the warm welcome here and the wealth of info you guys have shared. I'm real happy to be here with such a great group!

Best,

Paul
