All the parts are here! We will be working with a 93 MTX - A comprehensive upgrade as the knuckles will need to be replaced as well. Right now it's just time to assemble parts and over the course of the next few weeks, document and post progress. More to follow!

Part listing-
94/95 Knuckles (big thanks to Jelloslug)= $ good deal
Centric reman 141.61062 calipers = $66
Cardone reman 14-1058 FN74 brackets = $50
Hawk HPS 689 pads = $60
New Centric 11.6" Rotors = $50

As well as new TPR strut rod bushings :)

Everything you need is right here:
96brakes

Another angle:

The reman quality appears to be top notch on this original ford oem caliper:

Cardone 14-1058 Bracket - reconditioned FN74 bracket (DN101 and DN5 are for the smaller 10.9 brakes):

Looking good, I have the same set-up with the hawk pads, they stop pretty nicely. I also put the ss lines on while not essential they did firm up the pedal nicely. At this point though I'm already wanting cobra's..lol

Very nice. I enjoy my 96 brakes. I need to get better pads because mine are just the crummy advance pads so they fade fast.

I've had the '96 upgrade on my SHO for the past 8 years, and I love it.

Never warped a rotor...

I now have cobra calipers waiting for install. The '96 upgrade is great, especially if you are working with stock '93 brakes. You will be very pleased.

bolts? new CV stub nut?

Caliper bracket to knuckle bolts are in house. I have new struts and springs to drop in at the same time. I've never had to replace the CV shaft nuts for front end work - they are stop nuts by design. Install will start ... after I recover from my hangover tomorrow night :nut:

Hey Doug - I've heard about the cobra conversion, but the trade off is you have to ditch the slicers?

Yes they will not fit with the 13" rotors. You can modify the caliper brackets to fit on the 11.6" rotor if you choose or buy a 12" kit witch are essentially 13" rotors milled down.

I have the same set-up, with the hawk pads, on my 91'SHO. I also have Earl's SS brake lines(F&R) added. This combination has preformed exceptionally as a street package. Good brake feel and response, along with smooth and quiet operation, even during high-heat conditions. Definitely the best bang-4-$ option in a street brake package. These should have been the standard on the Gen1 SHO! :salute:

I have the hawk HPS pads and they are great for street use but I can make them fade real quick whenever im pushing the car.

I guess it depends on the brake setup. I absolutely love my Gen Hawk HPS pads. In fact, I haven't changed the pads since I've owned the car. Great pedal feel and fade free for me. However, I know that if I were to push them hard for a extended period of time I would be wishing for a HP+.

For Street use and Auto-X however, I wouldn't want to use anything else.

Yummm, shiny!
Thanks for posting... please keep updating - I'd love to do this upgrade at some point. (hmmm, maybe for it's 25th birthday?)

Nope...i'm keeping my slicers. You just need to modify the bracket and they will fit under slicers.

See the sticky at the top of this section...

Interesting read. I especially like the information posted by Zak regarding pad size and swept area relating to the various upgrades (11.6 or 13 with cobra calipers). I was surprised to find the swept area of the 11.6 kit is more than that of the 13" kit. Of course that doesn’t mean its superior, it falls short in terms of performance.

But look at the 11.6 rotor and take some measurements, there is still room for improvement. :)

In fact, you could get more out of the 11.6 rotors using a custom brake pad in which the friction surface would be extended 7mm towards the center of the rotor for a total sweep of 2.375”). For example, the stock pad only sweeps 2.1” (5.3cm), whereas the rotor’s maximum usable sweep is 2.375” (6cm); this means you are missing out on .55” (1.4cm) of “usable” braking area per side, multiply by two and that nets you 1.1” (2.8cm) of additional swept area, in theory. Mock fit, the FN74 bracket would require modification, but just minor grinding to allow for the longer pad to sit correctly.

Take a look,
Swept
Bracket will work after a little machining.

Interesting idea. Besides swept area, doesnt it have to do with the thermal capacity of the set up as well? I currently am running the '96 set up and would be interested in how to make it work better.

I discussed this option with Porterfield today and they think it can be done. As far as thermal limits and heat, that will be factored in with the details, have to call them back on Monday to get the ball rolling. :munch:

So it appears I have the smaller hawk pads designed for the 10.9" rotor, even though they cross reference to the 96-99 SHO (p/n HB 347) and what I really need are the HB416's. I'll order those and let you guys know.
