Hey guys, I've been working with a new platform option with another Engineering Aaron Schwartz over on the Facebook SHO groups, and wanted to share some progress here to see what kind of interest we will have.

Currently we have 3 sets of these running around - one on his car, one on my car, and one on a retrofitted 2011 MKS just to ensure that the kit will work on the 10-12 cars as well (requires 2013+ knuckle and strut assembly).

Essentially, we both went to work last year trying to design a better braking system for the SHO for customers who like to track the car or enjoy more spirited driving without brake fade. I tried to utilize a set of S550 Mustang Brembo brakes that I had from my last car while he tried to utilize a set of CTS-V Brembo calipers. Neither of us were successful in our designs, as the clearances needed for the both the wheel backspacing and the current caliper fit up just weren't playing nice.

We reached out to Wilwood, Brembo, and a few others with our ideas and finally decided to work with Wilwood on a side mount option that they have. Surprisingly they already had one sized for a 14" rotor and our 13.92" rotors fit perfectly with the adapter plates that Aaron designed.

This will be an Ortiz Performance exclusive, and will be released once we get some more testing, 60-0 and 100-0 braking times via Dragy compared to a stock PP braking system.

Kit is tentatively priced at $1600 SHIPPED and is designed to work with the factory rotors or any of the numerous upgrades currently available for the Taurus SHO (EBC, Wilwood, Power Stop, R1 Concepts, etc.)

Kit Includes:
- Wilwood 6-Piston Brake Calipers in Black or Red (Available in Gray Anodized for an additional $150 kit cost)
- Adapter Bracket (billet machined) and needed hardware
- Wilwood SS braided brake lines
- Wilwood BP-20 Brake Pads

We can factor in aftermarket brake rotors for an added fee and likely save you the cost of getting them yourselves.

To my knowledge, the only other commercially available Brake upgrade kit is the TCE kit, which utilizes 4-*** Wilwoods and retails for $2300 plus shipping.

If you have any questions, please feel free to post and I'll answer what I can or relay to Aaron if there is a question on the brackets themselves.

Pics attached are of the mock-up on Aaron's car, my setup will utilize R1 Concepts slotted rotors.

Always great seeing new product come to the platform.

Hopefully you'll have plenty of buyers to continue offering them.

I know my Wilwood's have proven phenomenal thus far and they've reinstalled confidence in my ability to stop this big 'ol pig of a car.

Adapter brackets can be made to fit a more common caliper, instead of fancy Wilwood. Just thinking any the budget friendly route. You could pull a 4 *** same diameter rotor set up off a mustang or something.

As I said, already tried with both Mustang and CTS-V options and the geometry just isn't there to do it safely without being bulky and something we would be comfortable putting our reputation on. This design is developed by two mechanical engineers, approved by a Principle Engineer, and once run for a bit should be production ready.

There is a guy that successfully put a set of CTS-V calipers on his car but it required machining the knuckle, spacing the strut, and I he doesn't plan to track the car or even daily it, but it's not something I would trust on the track.

Are you running the TEC kit?

Don't understand why knuckles or struts would need swapped out 2012 and below MY. Strut dimensions are exactly the same. And knuckle dimensions are the same at the brake mount ears. I have swapped 13 brakes on 3 vehicles, including a 2008 MY.

Looking foward to seeing the performance comparison numbers!

You mean "TCE" correct? If so, yes.

4 piston caliper at each corner.

Massive 15" drilled/slotted rotor up front.

Same for the rear, except in 14.25".

On a side note, Todd Cook, owner of TCE provided the technical reasons why a 6 piston set up was overkill, I just don't remember what those explanations were/are, as it's been so many years that have passed now.

I had inquired specifically about a 6 piston set up, and that's when he provided his rationale.

Regardless, still gonna be neat to see such a set up as you've proposed here, in action.

Havent done the 10->13 swap myself, just going off the tutorials out there that say those items have to be swapped to run 13+ calipers and rotors. If it can be done without that's awesome but I don't want someone with a 2010 MY to buy the kit then say it doesnt fit.

Yeah really only the barest of essentials have to be swapped. If you WANTED to, you could do master cylinder and brake line upgrades to give it the full "boost". But not really needed.

Your kit should work out awesome!

Hello, this is Aaron, the Mechanical Engineering Technology graduate who Lee mentioned above in the original post. As Lee stated above I designed the kit: adapter brackets, hardware and wilwood 6piston calipers, pads and lines for the 3.5 ecoboost platform. the kit should be cross compatible with all models running the 2013 steering knuckle geometry from the Taurus SHO. The kit utilizes Wilwood calipers instead of a cheaper or different brand option because the caliper piston area is the same as oem caliper piston area. Wilwood Engineers confirmed that this will work with the SHO and not cause problems with the ABS, AWD, or traction control. Also the OEM rotor size 14" dia. was kept as it is compatible with the wilwood specifications. I had requests to upgrade to the gt mustangs oem 15" dia. rotor and looked into it. This option is not feasible as the rotor is to thick and will not work with the tolerances wildwood has on their 6 piston caliper. Potentially a wilwood 15" rotor could be made to work with the kit, as Mike has on his white SHO, but this would make the kit even more expensive and out of reach for the majority of enthusiasts.

I reached out to a few shops to partner with on bringing the kit to market for the enthusiasts and chose Lee and Ortiz Performance to sell the complete kit once it is out of the testing phase. The goal being a performance oriented brake upgrade that was affordable and not as expensive as the other Wilwood kit on the market. Lee and I are still working on pricing as it is tentative, but we want the kit to be more accessible to the enthusiasts so more people can enjoy the upgrade.

If you have any further questions regarding the kit feel free to reach out on Facebook. My name is Aaron Schwartz and I would be happy to answer any further questions regarding the kit.

Outstanding reply and how awesome to have the ACTUAL PERSON who fabricated the kit come out of the wood work and speak up.

Impressive! x2 actually (the 1st time for making the kit for mass consumption).

Always nice to see more options available to the platform. Niche car, or not, this platform is just too cool IMHO.

I agree with BPD, it is nice to hear and be able to interact with the actual developer. It seems so foreign these days.
