3.2 motor.Im hearing a tapping noise on the right side. The car is lacking power. Slow pick up. 118,000 on it. Also, trans somtimes down shifts hard when coasting. I've been reading post for a so time and They been very helpful. I bought the car 3 years ago and love it, hope the problems arn't to costly.

Possible suspects include crank cancer or a failed timing belt tensioner.

Which specific down shifts are exhibiting the problem? (AX4S)...

The car down shifts hard from drive to second. Somtimes first. It happens most when coasting not under breaking.

Sounds like the tranny output shaft speed sensor. Happened on my 91' while coasting the damn tranny would shift from OD to 1st going like 40-45mph!!:oogle: It's a hall effect sensor just like the crank sensor and cam sensor.

The AX4S only has a TSS and a VSS, no OSS. 91 SHOs didn't have automatics....

If I had to guess, I'd say it's probably a sticky valve in the valve body, probably the line modulator valve or the 3-2 shift timing valve.

Mike should be along and throw in his 2 cents....
