O.K., after 13 years and 4 SHO's, I'm on my way out of the SHO world. My '95 silver MTX just blew its engine (rod exploded out of oil pan!). Here's the short story. Has aroung 120K, if I remember correctly, and throwout bearing had was going bad. But I was still driving it. Going up interstate 81 in TN, suddenly the bearing more or less failed, and I couldn't get the car to shift from 4th to 5th. So, I was doing about 75mph in fourth, and boom, the engine blew. I'm real busy and will be changing jobs soon and will not have time to fix. So, if anybody wants to buy the whole thing, I'm willing to give them a deal to get it off my hands. Things you should know:
1.) I bought the car out of Ohio, and its got some rust problems, especially underneath and in the engine compartment.
2.) It had about 77K on it when I bought it.
3.) It's got a relatively new (30K?) Dynomax cat back exhaust.
4.) I thinks its got an aftermarket Y-pipe, but I'm not sure which one.
5.) It has Eibach springs and Tokiko struts.
6.) Interior is gray, solid leather, and all in pretty good condition.
7.) It has a sunroof, with a broken switch, of course!
8.) Previous owner has replaced all the vacuum hoses with the blue silicon ones as so many people have done (not mentioned because of the value, but as evidence that at some point the engine was attended to).
9.) It has non-stock cams, but I don't know who's profile. I can tell such by looking at the visible cam lobes through the oil fill port. Again, all I know is that the profile is much more agressive than the stock, but I've never had the covers off to inspect more closely.
10.) AC Compressor is seized. It was unplugged but not repaired.
11.) Some windows are slow to go up and down, mainly I think because the window skirts are swelled because of rust underneath.
General Comments: Everything else that wasn't mentioned is intact and should be in working order. Before the throwout bearing started getting noisy, the transmission shifted well. I bought the car on ebay from a Ford dealership in Cleveland, OH who took it in as a trade-in. It was sold to me sight unseen with the statment that the body was "Rust-free!" When I got there, I turned in the rental car just down the street from the dealership, and was taken to the dealership by the rental car guy, getting there just before they closed. Payment was made prior, and the Ford guy handed me the paperwork and keys, walked me to the car, and said C-ya. The car looked great from the outside; no visible rust. When I opened the hood, I was horrified to find rust everywhere in the metal surrounding a shiny, new-looking engine. Turned back to question the Ford guy and he was locking the doors. Everyone else was gone. I asked him why he lied about the car being rust free, showing him the engine compartment. He mumbled something about not noticing the rust, and pointed to the paper I had in hand that said AS-IS. So, realizing I'd been screwed (considering what I paid for it, that is), I drove the car home to TN and have been driving it ever since. Whoever owned it before me definitely had done some work on the engine, clutch, and suspension. The car drove with noticably more power than my stock '93 MTX. I know the cams have been upgraded, but I don't know what else was done the engine. Again, I never took any of it apart. It has a cold-air intake installed, but not sure which brand. (I'll check to see if it has a chip installed. That might tell us more about what has been done to the engine tuning.) The clutch pedal had at least twice the pressure as a stock one, which makes me conclude that a stiffer clutch was installed, not to mention that I couldn't get the clutch to slip what-so-ever when I first got it. In spite of the rust, its been a great, everyday driver in the 4 or 5 years I've owned it. Then it died.
Interestingly enough, the engine still ran after it threw the rod (at least it did for the half mile I drove it from point of explosion to the next exit, and then from the tow truck drop off point of my parent's lower driveway to where its now parked at the upper part of the driveway. It will probably still run, but who knows?) So, who wants to come take this nightmare off my hands? If I had the time, I'd take off all the good parts to use on my '93 MTX, which I originally planned to restore to better than factory condition. But now it has become my daily driver, and since I'll be changing jobs soon, I can't afford the time or money to fix or finish either one. In fact, someone who makes me the right offer can have both of them, plus a mountain of other parts, new and used, all to take me out of the SHO world for good. [The '93 needs only a paintjob and a few minor fixes. Its got about '62K on the engine, a rebuilt trans with the Quaiffe, '96 updated subframe mounts, Eibach springs and Tokiko struts and GTP control arms and stiffer anti-roll bars and bushings, only 40K on the following items: every single engine sensor, the enire AC system, and the dash replaced with a NOS from the '95 year model (a difficult find!), 50/50 seats in excellent condition, sunroof, NO RUST!, SHO Shop pulleys, SHO Shop Y-pide, etc. I've got a SHO Shop CAI, larger diameter MAF (can't remember size), and a "Ted Somebody's?" chip tuned for the pair that has never been installed. Oh yeah, just replaced the factory fuel pump with a higher output one.]
I'll try to post pictures soon, and I'll answer any questions you may have. I'm located in East Tennessee, about half way between Knoxville and the Tri-Cities. So, make me an offer on the entire '95, and if your interested, I'm willing to entertain an offer on the '95 and the '93, plus the mountain of other parts I've collected over the years. Trust me, that's no exaggeration! I've got body panels, sets of seats, a set of '95 white doors, engines, blocks, transmissions (auto and manual), heads, cams, bolts of all kinds, new window trim, etc. (I don't know exactly what all I've got, as I've bought so much through the years!) But, I can tell you I can't just part it all out individually. Not becuase I'm opposed to the work. It's just that I literally cannot afford the time. And if someone does want to buy it all, I'll give you a good deal, but I can't let it all go for a steal. Mainly becuase I'm still using the '93 as a daily driver and would have to replace it if it all goes. So, what do you think?
Thanks!
