So I've searched the forum and got a good idea of how to flush the trans. Planning to do that this weekend plus install a drain plug with magnet.

One question I haven't seen is should I get an orange or green filter kit for my car? I am almost certain the car is using an AX4S and not an AXOD-E. It's only a $25 difference to buy both but I'd prefer to not make multiple trips to the parts store.

Thanks for the help.

Who cares what color the filter is? The fluid doesn't care and no one will see it.

The SHO uses the AX4S. The pan and many of the other parts are common to the AXOD-E.

Its not the color of the filter its the o-ring or the pan gasket, they color code them to distinguish transmissions instead of just asking which trans!

As I understand it the neck on the filter is different. I think one is a little longer and a different OD then the other. The distinguishing factor from what I have read is the color of the seal used on the transmission filter. It would be either orange or green. What I have not been able to find is if the SHO uses orange or green.

Anyone have any insight?

I think you should get orange. All the ones I have used are orange.

Also, parts store catalogs are so hopelessly f***ed up as far as tranny filters and gaskets go, the only reliable way to tell is by going by bolt holes. You want the 17 bolt filter and gasket, not the 19 bolt. The latter is for the 96-up AX4N.

FWIW, AXODE = AX4S. At least as far as filters and gaskets goes.

Orange it is. Yeah, the parts catalog listed 8 different kits for a 95 Taurus SHO, so going by application wasn't helping me much.

95 and 96 are the worst for that sort of stuff, as so much is hopelessly cross-mixed between the generations, if you don't know exactly what you're getting you'll get the wrong stuff in a heartbeat. I.E. 95 gets you 96 transmission stuff, 96 gets you 95 brake stuff (I know for a fact that if you look up brake rotors for a 96 SHO, it will list 10.9" rotors!)...

That's why there is something to be said for shopping at our SHO vendors... they do not get their catalogs messed up because they know them. That is why it is worth sometimes paying a higher price; you won't get screwed.
