Does anyone have any insight on this? My 94 MTX is difficult to get into 1st and almost impossible to get into reverse. this came on suddenly, and otherwise no other issues.

Your synchro might've let go. I wish I could help more but I'm pretty useless when it comes to MTXs... :frown: sorry.

Your clutch may be dragging, or your clutch quadrant may be broken or in need of adjustment. Have you done the regular clutch adjustment by pulling up on the clutch pedal?

just lift up on the pedal. it clicks and adjustment done.

does it do this when the car is running and off or just running? so if its only when its running its a clutch problem imo. how old is the clutch? does the clutch make any noise other than the grinding of gears when trying to shift?

Thanks. I will try the adjustment.
it does this when running. it is hard to get into first, and nearly impossible to get into reverse. I can shut it off and it falls fight into reverse though.
the clutch is original, it has 125K. No there is no noise from the clutch and it is smoothe through all of the other gears.

Wow! A Stock clutch with 125k. My stock clutch went right at 118k in my old 92.

Also, What part of NC are you in?

with 125k on the clutch, I bet your pressure plate fingers or throw out bearing is shot. It is probably time for a new clutch.
