Hey, new here first post etc. I just got a 93 ATX (I meant 93 in title, wont let me change it now that i posted :/) with 83,5XX on it, the car runs like a dream when it IS running(although it needs a new head gasket) but when I go to start it sometimes the starter just pings like the battery's dead, but its not (all electronics work fine, and it will turn over after fiddling with the ignition, or just letting it sit for a few min). The starters brand new so we're thinking its the starter solenoid, but haven't gotten a chance to really look into it yet (and all the parts stores are closed till Tuesday anyway) Im just wondering if anyone has run into this and knows the exact cause before i go replacing every little part that relates to the starter. Its also getting a new alternator since the stock ones on its way out, Im not sure if that plays into it.

99% of the time it fires right up once the starter actually engages, but there was a single occasion where the oil light came on and off and it stalled. Its possible this was just from the bad head gasket tho.

Thanks, any input would be appreciated.

If the starter is new so is the solenoid. Who ever put the starter in may have over tightned the starter connections and damaged the solenoid though or maybe they are not tight enough. Anyways welcome to the forum and good luck.

Alright thanks, I was just making sure I wasn't dealing with some tell-tale signs of a catastrophic failure resulting in extreme expenses.
Also like to note that I searched most of this stuff multiple times, but nothing matched my exact situation.
