Besides the differences in the computer with the 93, could someone list the other changes in the atx trans from 93-95.

This would be a big help as I am replacing the trans in my Red 94 ATX and I found one out of a 93 that is in great shape, but I dont know if I want to use it because they are weaker.

Thanks,

as far as i know, they never changed anything that would make them any stronger, the did change the cross over **** tube and rear planet support, moddifed them for better lubrication, (lol still never really got it right) as for the computer's i believe it was in 94 they recalibrated it for differnt shift points ext to help in keeping the trany alive longer. i'm not sure if i have covered all but there's a start.

There are a few significant differences, the largest being that the 93 came with a weaker input shaft and a different torque converter (different splne count).

When rebuilding a 93 version, it's a pretty simple action to upgrade to the 94-95 stuff..

SHOMAN,

Probably the weakest parts in the '93 ATX are the aluminum pistons in the forward and direct clutches. They were upgraded to steel in the '94s. When the AXOD was re-designed for the SHO the aluminum pistons were carried over from the SLOs and it was mistake:oogle: .

The fact that it was changed after one year speaks volumes for the benefits.

The 94, at least, still used the aluminum pistons. Want to see mine (it's split....)

Interesting. Thats a big help. I figure I may put a 93 in as a stop gap measure but knowing this I will definetly get a proper rebuild for my 94!

Thanks again,

A few years ago there was a post on the SHOtimes mailing list that detailed the best atx rebuild tips. I thought the writeup was so good that I have always kept a copy. Read it here. There are also a few other atx pages on my web site that may interest you.
