Test drove a 93 ATX that I might take as a partial trade on my motorcycle. At full throttle it will bounce off the rev limiter several times before shifting into 2nd gear. It doesn't slip but shifts late then seems normal. It also seems like cruise keeps trying to maintain speed but can't. Has anybody had this problem from a vss or tps sensor? Any ideas on this before I make a decision. Thanks in advance.

Could be a bad thing, you can run codes (check link in my sig) see if it comes up with anything tranny wise. 93s are the weakest year for the ATX also. Btw your sig pic is way too big, please resize to the forums limits.

Sounds like a failing or fauly VSS. Have you followed Marcel's suggestion above and checked the codes yet?

Mine does the same thing, and I know it's probably my VSS as well, but I don't get a code.

I don't know.... I would think if it was not getting a good vss signal it would shift early @ 3000 rpm or so. I am thinking more along the lines of the forward clutch piston starting to let pressure bleed off, making the car take that extra second for there to be enough pressure to force the shift.
What is the condition of the fluid. Is it at the proper level too?

While I was hoping for the 'simpler', electronic solution, I also agree that the forward clutch piston could be the one to blame.SHO#7 said:

I guess I do not see the simple fix too often. That forward piston, and direct piston are junk before the upgrade to the harder steel. I remember years ago when we would see 4-5 taurii in every week with the 1-2 neutral slam shift. All associated with those types of repair. I guess that is still burned into my memory.

Well if the guy comes up with the boot money I'm getting it in trade. Knocked $800 of the bike price for the car. What I'm ever going to do with SHO # 4 is beyond me but i have always wanted a black one with black interior so what the ****. Wish me luck.

Mine only does it when warm. Cold; everything is nice, tight, and firm.

Try some fresh fluid. Add a bottle of Lucas Transmission oil stabilizer during the fluid change. It helps thicken up transmission oil.

my atx sho did the same thing i took it to the dealership the tans specalist went for a drive with me and he shifted the car like a stick took off in first up to about 35 then second to 45 then drive at 55 he did this three times no bounce i got in the drivers side and put the car in drive floored it nothing the car shifted fine ..never has done it again. i do not know if this could help your probolm but it did mine ... hope this helps somone
