i am going to change my 02 sensors on wednesday, and i just happened to look under the sho to day while wife was in grocery store and my cats were glowing orange. i know they get hot but that hot?

Probably be cheaper to get a ypipe and get some type of performance gain out of it.

yeah if you have the money and it turns out to be cheaper you might as well do the y-pipe, but you wont get much of a gain on the atx with it. check around at midas and places like that, you may get a good deal to just replace the cats. good luck and let us know how it goes.

meineke and some other muffler shops say they cant replace just the cats. they say i have to do the y pipe also 1 unit. shrug

Glowing catalytic convertors = Plugged. They need to be replaced.
Can't agree with this statement.

Glowing cats mean they are burning too much fuel within the cat itself.

Usually, this is due to a fault that is causing the engine to run too rich, such as a bad thermostat, ECT, or O2 sensors.

Left unrepaired, the too rich condition will cause the cats to be ruined.
